If the recharageable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and graduallythe charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The batteryshows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops offto zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptablecharge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Unplug the battery and store in a cool dry and dark place (closet) for six months. Get a new battery and use it in the meantime. After six months put battery back in and Viola! The battery holds 100% charge and is same as new. This a commonplace battery error that continues to plague mankind until we find a way to fast discharge these buggers.
1.Check that the base unit's AC adapter is plugged into the both the base unit and electrical outlet firmly.
2.Wipe the base unit's handset holder's connectors and the connectors on the bottom of the handset with a soft cloth/rag or pencil eraser to remove any loose dust and dirt from the metal connectors.
