Hello, we've had a PT-53TW53 for over two years now with no problems. Then this afternoon we turned the tv on to watch the game and the green convergence was way off as everything seems to have "green outlines". There is also a green line arching across the bottom of the screen. (Our area was hit with heavy lightning storms last night but the TV worked fine in the morning.)
Any idea what might be causing this and how costly it could be to repair?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re:
Very common problem John with projection sets. They have High powered audio amps inside the sets to control the red, green, and blue convergence for the color alighnment on the screen. These amps blow out and should be replace all at one time. There are also resistors that can go out at the same time and your gonna have to have these replace also if they have any discoloration to them. This is not a job for the novice to attempt, as there are HI Voltage safety issues involved, and should be done by a trained tech. This repair should run you anywhere from $250.00 all the way up to $400.00 bucks, depending on where you live and who you get to repair the set. It's always better, in my opiniuon to call a factory authourized repair place as they should have all the service data and most parts for your set. Good Luck

Tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,it dead. The tv convergence board require to change 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors to solved the convergence problems. The shop will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.
GO INTO THE CUSTOMER MENU AND SELECT CONVERGENCE--do not adjust the
green which is the first option some of these sets offer---if you find
red or blue are skewed and or will not adjust you have a CONVERGENCE
circuit problem.
Considering if this is the case, total parts
cost for the repair will be under 30 dollars if you can do it yourself,
you can save the set and a lot of money--most shops get 300 or more for
this type of repair.
I HAVE START TO FINISH, STEP BY STEP BY
STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS TYPE OF REPAIR IN THESE SETS--they tell you
everything you will need and how to do it
I can tell you the best place to buy the chips and I will help you if you have problems during the repair.
I
have repaired hundreds of these sets with convergence problems--usual
repair takes about a hour---longer if you are doing it the first time.

The convergence output IC's have failed. Only fix is to replace them. These are large amplifier IC's bolted to heatsinks and have a high failure rate in all projection sets.
This is a convergence problem and is either bad connections at the convergence IC or defective ICs. If you can solder, try resoldering the pins on teh convergence ICs. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. These ICs are large black ICs attached to a heatsink and may be marked STKxxx.
Try to adjust your convergence from you menu items. If this does not work, the problem may be your convergence Correction ICs but make sure you try to adjust your convergence first. There is a lot of information on the net about how to change the two convergence ICs (so I will not reinvent the wheel here). I would however suggest that you get a qualified TV repair person to do this for you since some folks have run into other issues in trying to do it themselves.
