I lost the original remote and bought a universal as a replacement. I can turn off the TV, change channels, etc., but for some reason the remote won't allow me to pull up the menu or switch from cable input to video input. I can't even find a way of switching the input from the front of the TV or in the menu. Any ideas?
Then the only way to reach your tv is through coaxial antenna port. So
you can buy an rf modulator ( very cheap) and connect your red yellow
and white cables (rca cables from a dvd, game console etc) to the modulator then connect the modulator to your antenna with a coax cable. This worked for me.
Go to any cashconverters store with your tv name and model number usualy at back of tv they will make an exact copy of original at 15quids it works as original best tip ever m8

Now, it depends upoon the Universal Remote u purchased. If your remote has the neccesary buttons - AV/TV switching,Front - Rear Input Switching, Menu, etc, it should work! Since there are multiple codes for every brand, keep feeding the various codes one by one, and checking if the neccesary functions operate.
If, finally, you are unsuccesful, then, folow techman's advice.

Universal remotes have severe limitations and aren't suitable to replace a lost or broken original remote.
If a genuine replacement cannot be found, try searching for a compatible remote. These provide most of the functions of the original including menu access. I think I bought mine from Amazon or ebay and it cost little more than a good universal.
No,universal remote only work for the basic like power tv on/off,numbers on the keypad, channel up/down and volume up/down only.Beyond that like inter functions of the tv will not work with the universal tv remote.Only the original remote can do that.Try website like Remotes.com to buy an original remote.
This tv name brand are limitted manufacture for Target stores. That why u not getting a universal remote codes, that work return the thing.Buy the original remote.Try website Remotes.com buy the original remote.
You need the original remote controller to be able to switch input modes.Universal ones usually don't work. If you don't have the original remote and can't find it ever or if it is too expensive you can buy an rf modulator ( very cheap) and connect your dvd player, game console etc) to the modulator then connect the modulator to your antenna with a coax cable. This worked for me. It placed the connection to channel 4 and other cable channels are still working,
You can buy the RF Modulator from: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180299245670
Universal remote control are normally programmed for basic functions, ie. chennel up down, volume up down, numbers, etc.
This is even written in the manual that they do not guarantee that all functionality can be used.
Here are your options:
1. Try all the codes that match your TV, there is a slim chance that the other code have the functionality that you need.
2. Buy the original model remote control.
3. If you know of someone that have the same TV, buy a universal remote control with 'learning' function and copy the signal from the original remote control.
I have the same problems before. Now I use my Casio wrist remote control to copy the special functions such as A/V so that even if the original remote control is lost, I can still use these functionality
