If you wish to troubleshoot further, please try removing RAM, Hard disk one by one, just you did about the battery. Start the notebook every time you remove a component. If any of the removed parts is culprit, the notebook should start after removint it. Further details on how to remove the parts are available on hp website. Thanks, Rajesh

I agree with bmwrider on this. I just had one last week which did the same thing. After replacing the power jack the unit would not boot but the battery light flashed for an instant. Took out the battery and tried it and it booted fine. Take the battery out and try it without the battery using the AC power unit. If the battery is the culprit it should run. In which case you will need a new battery. Good luck.

Have you considered it could be the battery has died. Have you tried external power? If the battery is OK then check the battery contacts to make sure they are clean. Has your power supply died and it won't power the laptop or charge the battery? It could be the motherboard but I'd put my money on it's power supply or battery. Without more details being supplied.

When I press power button the power light flashes once that's it' it is charging and the battery light is on its a dell 1540

Many possible causes for this problem. To troubleshoot, first remove the power cord and the battery. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This will drain all energy from the laptop and create a fresh startup. If that doesn't let it start, remove the RAM and harddrive and try to start. It should partially boot and give you error messages. That would be good since you don't have a drive or RAM. If it doesn't do anything, you have a bad motherboard, a rather expensive repair.

Will not turn on, last time used, I turned it off manually?

Try this:

To repair your computer using Startup Repair follow these steps:
  1. Boot into Vista installation DVD
  2. Choose your language settings and click Next
  3. Click Repair your computer
  4. Choose your operating system and click Next. This should bring up System Recovery Options.
  5. Click on Startup Repair
Startup Repair should now start diagnosing your system to identify the root cause of the failure. Once it has identified the root cause, it would automatically start repairing your computer. If you are curious to know what Startup Repair did, you can click on the details link and see which tests Startup Repair ran to diagnose the problem.
After Startup Repair has finished the repairs, click Finish to reboot your computer.
Your computer should now be able to boot normally into Vista!!
Note -- If your computer cannot boot into Vista even after repairs, then go back to System Recovery Options and run System Restore.
That's it! This is how you use Startup Repair for most unbootable situations.

My HP Pavilion not started (no power)

incorrect shutdown with low battery will always cause problems....
first of all youre gonna have to put some charge into the battery... the power button to startup and wait for activity...lights , sounds etc..then press and hold power button until you hear pc shutdown.then may have to choose startup in option screen like start with last good config etc but now it will be back on.

Startup problems ctnd

It can be the memory, the board , the processor, the switch and alot more. A pinched wire. Just try one at a time with new or used working parts.
