It is not a fearsome job. You will need some cotton balls, and demineralised water. Remember though the mirror does not have to be pristine clean to give excellent performance. Most of the time a mirror has not lost more than 1-2% even though it may look a bit dirty. Unless you are really unhappy with it, don't go ahead.

Take the mirror cell from the scope, and then carefully remove the mirror claws, which will not be tight. Carefully lift the mirror (they are heavy) and stand it in the kitchen sink on edge, on a rag or sponge.

Rinse the mirror surface with cold water from the tap, running medium hard, while turning the mirror to reach all parts. Don't lose your hold on it.

Put in the sink plug and lay the mirror down flat, reflective face up. Fill the sink with luke-warm water to about 1 cm (1/2 inch) over the surface, and add a dash of dish detergent and swirl to mix, but don't touch the mirror surface.

Take a cotton ball and dip it in the water, then holding the ball by one end, and using only the weight of the cotton ball with no finger pressure, stroke the mirror surface from the centre to the outer edge. Do not go round and round in circles. Repeat this right round the mirror, using a new cotton ball every few strokes (some say EVERY stroke).

The stand the mirror on edge again and drain the water out. Using demineralised water straight from the container, rinse the mirror surface thoroughly, and lay it flat on a towel, reflective face up, to dry. You can blot large blobs of water with the very tip of a folded tissue, but demineralised water should dry with no mark. Do not touch the surface after this.

You may see greasy fingerprints left there. If they are bad, repeat the above procedure just in those areas, but just before filling the sink with lukewarm water and detergent, stroke these spots with a cotton ball soaked in half metho/half demineralised water. Never apply more pressure than the weight of the cotton ball.

My scope was knocked over....the reflector mirror fell out. How do I repair it? Please help me. I have yet to use the scope.

Most reflector mirrors are held inside the tube with a metal mirror cell that has clips that hold the mirror.

Remove the mirror cell at the bottom of the scope and re-clip the mirror back into the cell.

The scope will need to be collimated -- once the mirror is back in.

Can't see anything and don't know which end is which.

You must have a REFLECTOR style scope with a MIRROR in the bottom. The focuser end is the UP end -- the mirror is on the GROUND end.

You probably have it mounted backwards.

It should look like this:

Can i clean the colored bulbs and reflector mirror or will that mess up the mirror?

You can use the same thing you use window cleaner. For the mirror. I don't recomend using any chemical on the CRT(the bulb you were refering to). They are coated with alluminum oxide if I am not mistaken to eliminated chromatic abberation. The mirror is fine.

Can't see out of eye piece

This is a reflector style telescope. The MIRROR is in the base! Light enters the front near the focuser and goes down the tube and bounces off the mirror and back to the front and through the eyepiece. The EYEPIECE end is pointed up.

Your scope TUBE should look like the reflector telescope on this web page:

http://www.amazon.com/Edu-Science-Astro-Nova-102-Telescope/dp/B001NLOQN2

Wish you had NOT bought this telescope. For about the same price you could have bought this:
http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=classicdobs/~pcategory=dobsonians/~product_id=08942

The scope above has a 6 inch mirror which is almost twice the size of the scope you bought.

COPIES COME OUT DARK

Have you cleaned the optics, if there is a build up uf dust and grime on the glass and mirrors, the machice will get progressivly darker.

Remove the glass and lens cover, and gently clean the mirrors and scanner reflector, then clean both sides of the glass.

Hope this is of some help.

Assenbling

You never said if this is a refractor or a reflector (with mirrors). If it is a refractor you need to collimate the from lens cell-- this is fairly difficult without an optical bench.

If you have a reflector with mirrors then watch this video to learn how to collimate a reflector style scope.
