If you see some text or icons on the LCD but no live shot, the LCD is good but most likely your CCD sensor is out. This is a manufacturer defect and will be covered free by Nikon even if it is out of it's original warranty. Go here for the Nikon link: http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html

Try the menus, if they work, possible that the ccd is bad.

Pictures are black

My 4300 works fine until this week. No picture display on the LCD screen. Settings like date, exposure, etc.. are fine on the LCD screen. Able to get into setup mode and the colour menu selection box is fine. This shows that the LCD screen is working fine. Prior to this happening, I notice that when I took pictures in zoom mode, the picture turn out to be orange. I suspect this is caused by electronic failure. Light entering the lens cannot be transmitted to the LCD screen. Some photoelectronic stuff had reached its MTBF (mean time between failure)? Is there a way to save this camera?

Nikon coolpix 5700

at the back of the camera next to the view finder (bottom right hand corner) is a button and icon marked SEL. pressing this button toggles the lens image from the view finder to the lcd screen and back again. IF neither view is available then I suspect your camera needs some TLC at a repair shop. hope this helps.

Nikon 5700 takes a blank picture

There was a line of defective Sony sensors that went into a lot of cameras between 2004 and 2005. As far as I know the 5700 was the primary victim in the Nikon line but Nikon is offering to repair or replace the affected cameras regardless of warranty status. http://www.nikonusa.com/email_images/nikonusa/service_advisory/coolpix.html Good luck

Black screen on LCD and in the eyepiece

Your camera is a reflex camera, it means what the lens you see If the displays are black it means that there's a block inside the lens, probably the inner mirrors are stuck. Try resetting the camera. Save the photos on the memory disk, disconnect whatever can be disconnect, get out the batteries, and let the camera rest for a day or two If the problem haven?t been solved and you don?t have the knowledge how to open the camera take it to fix, hope the insurance is still good. Good luck

Black screen when looking through eyepiece

if camera will only display black screen, there's probobly some kind of blocking in the lense. try restarting the camera. first save all data from memory-card, then restart it, unpug everything you can, take out batteries, and leave it alone for a day. if problem aint solved and you dont have the professional knowladge to open the camera and search for the disruption, you should take it to the store.
