Water won't stop filling the washer

The water just keeps running into the tub...even when the machine is not on! I have to turn the water off at the wall. If I don't get the clothes out immediately, they'll be sitting in a puddle. :( It's not going through the rinse and final spin cycle either.

  • Anonymous Feb 03, 2012

Based on one of the suggested solutions...AND that our kitchen sink water pressure had just taken a nose dive (because it was full of grit)....I took the hose off of the back of the washer and it was FULL of grit and stuff. :( I took a syringe and flushed out the valve at the back of the washer and replaced the hose. When I turned the machine on, the water was not automatically flowing in like it had been. So....stay tuned...it may have fixed the problem. We'll see....if this load runs through........hoping......

Yep...that was it. Clogged "water-in" pipe that must've blocked the water inlet valve inside the washer in the open position.

Water fill valve is probably stuck open. see if you can find a blockage or just replace it

  • Anonymous Feb 03, 2012

Thanks. I added notes to my question above that corresponds perfectly to this suggested solution (that came in after I'd found the clog). A valve replacement wasn't needed....just a hose-rinse and a good flushing into the valve area with one of those bulb syringes.

SOURCE: Occasionally washer has sand in tub after rinse cycle

wow. are you on a well or city water? This means you have sand coming in from the line. and i am very suprised that your fill valve is still working usually when sand is comeing through the line it will either still the valve open causeing water to come in all the time even when turned off or it will block the solinoid and the water will just trickle in. I wouild take the hoses off the back of the unit get a five gallon bucket and turn the water on and see what is comeing out of the line. are you in a drought and on well water? maybe it is sucking the sand from the bottom of your well?

SOURCE: Rinse Cycle

Is this a fairly new Energy star machine? If it is the rinse cycle is a spin only cycle with several spray rinses.

You may have an option switch that gives you a Fabric softener option, use this option and you will have a deep tub cold water rinse.

Make sure you are using He detergent.

If you have soft water use less detergent

Let me know if you have further questions.

Your sales rep should have told you this!

SOURCE: After final rinse and spin cycle clothes are still wet

I can't solve this but am having a similar problem. There is no water in the tub but the spin cycle does not get enough water out of the clothes and they're very wet. This causes the towels especially... to smell really bad. The tub is very loose. How can this be fixed.

SOURCE: water valve has to be shut off at faucet to

This may be caused by a pressure switch malfunction or a water inlet valve that is leaking by. The following link explains how you can determine which one may be causing your problem:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3753262-front_load_washer_fills_when_not_in_use

Is this a simple problem of the washer continuing to fill with water when its not in use? Does the washer overflow? Does the water shut off after the cycle ends? These are some good questions that can help lead you in the right direction.

Check the small air hose that runs from the bottom right hand side of the wash tub to the pressure swtich. If this hose has come loose from the pressure switch from the air dome on the wash tub, the pressure switch will not sense the pressure differential coming from the wash tub as the unit fills. Also, if the air hose is cracked, ripped, split, or clogged somewhere, you will get the same symptoms.

If the water inlet valve is determined to be the source of your problem, follow the steps provided in the link on how to replace one. These are simple and inexpensive repairs. I've also included web sources that you can refer to for part numbers.

If you need further assistance, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps lead you in the right direction.

Machine keeps filling up, replace pressure switch, still nohting, keeps filling up?

Hello dwl770 - If your washer won't stop filling up with water and overflows the tub, check for one of these problems:

1) Turn off the electricity to the washer. If the water *stopped* filling when power was disconnected, the problem would usually be in the control system of the machine. If the water still continues, then the plunger in the water valve is either stuck open or slow to close. Try turning the water faucets off and on a few times. This small joltmight unstick the water valve. If not, it will need replacing.

2) There could be a problem with the water level switch. Call in a professional.

3) There is a pressure switch hose that is attached to an air dome. This switch tells the washer that there is water in the tub and allows the agitator to start.

- Remove the control panel and you will notice a small hose. See if it popped off of the air dome. If it did, secure it with a zip tie.

If water flow continues, but drains out immediately, then raise the drain hose above the highest water level line of the tub. Do not seal the drain hose to the discharge pipe. This could cause a siphoning action.

Washer hums but will not fill or start/ spin has water pressure and tub seems to move freely the model #on tag LTF2140ES0

If it doesn't fill it won't start any other cycle unless you move it ahead yourself. If it hums I am thinking it is trying to fill. Sounds like the valve is turning on to let water in but it is not getting through. My washer has a screen where the hoses go on and sometimes the screen becomes plugging with scale. If that is ok then the solenoid must be coming on but the valve is stuck. Does neither hot or cold settings work? Please rate my answer so I am rewarded points for it.

My maytag mtw5600tq1 washer won't hold water. Its

Hi,
Its sounds like you have a siphon going on, this happens when the drain hose it too low during fill and as the water enters the unit it exits through the drain hose. To stop this the drain hose needs to be higher than the tub itself, meaning: raise the drain hose behind the washer to about control panel area. This will or should stop the siphon effect and allow the water to remain in the tub. If the drain hose is low this siphon will start again.
I hope this helps

My washer wont fill with water what seems to be the problem

Hi

If the washer won't fill you'll need to check for the water inlet hose, the water inlet valve and the pressure/water level switch assembly. Inspect the inlet hose coming to the washer for any blockages. If the hose is not clogged then check the water inlet valve for any clogs, if the water will not even fill for few seconds then certainly the water inlet valve is bad and should be replaced. You can also use a multimeter to check continuity on inlet valve. If you don't get any value on the multimeter then you'll need to replace the water inlet valve assembly. However, if the valve is fine then the pressure/water level switch assembly should be replaced. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.
