Rattling noise during high speed spin

My whirlpool duet washing machine rattles loudly during high speed spin. It has become progressively louder as it previously sounded like a repeating ticking sound (one tick per revolution which has now become two ticks per). The maching does not make any ticking or rattling sound when the drum is rotated by hand.

Correction: The machine does make the same double ticking sound per revolution when the drum is rotated quickly by hand. For those with the same problem my unit is Model #GHW9100LQ1.

Sounds as if you might have a bad rear bearing, real obnoxious almost painful to listen too kinda sounds. big job, but might have some part warrentee depending on age of unit

i would then think you might have something stuck between the tubs, ie, bra under wire, nail/screw. try shining a flashlight into the tub and look for an obsruction.

Loud humming or buzzing only when it spins at high speeds

This noise causes by the drum bearing is getting worse. As soon as the noise is getting far louder and extremely louder then you have to replace the bearing of the outer drum. Normally, the repair cost is as high as buying a good deal new washer.

Very loud rumbling noise during spinning

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. This will solve your problem.

Water leaking and loud noise and rattling on final spin cycle

Turn the drum by hand and if you hear any noises it is the rear bearing. If there is no noise then remove the front bottom panel and take out the coin trap on the pump and check those hoses.

My Whirlpool Duet washer has started to make much more noise in the high speed spin mode, is this normal or is it a service issue?

A loud, roaring noise in high spin speed usually indicates the tub bearing is failing. A large job best left to the professionals.
