Hi, i've an fx8. i had a problem 2 weeks ago. my objective didn't want to close when i switched the camera off. it remained open. when i switched the camera on again, the objetcive has closed and opened again, and the _Turn Off the Camera and Turn On again_ message appeared on the sisplay. and remained in open position after switching it off. i tried some button combination, like menu button on, and power the camera on. it didn't work, but the second was pressing the shotting button, power on combination. an it worked, my camera did some kind of reset. it returned to the original position, and everithing is working since then.

Another common problem. Lens troubles. You have either knocked your lens out of alignment or you have a foreign body jamming up the works in the lens control unit. There have been many so called fixes for these problems but usually end up causing more problems than curing. You could check that you have fully charged new batteries. Some cameras need that extra kick to get them to open the lens fully. Worn out batteries can stop a sticky lens in it's tracks and tell the processor there is a problem and to close down. It's well worth trying before writing it off.

Fine-Pix A400 is showing Focus Error and will not allow photos to be taken. In addition, the lens will not retract when the camera is shut off. This problem occurred after using the zoom procedure several...

Here is a quick fix to try. If you attempted to remove the focus error doing the 3 times on and off, and it didnb't help to this. Power the camera on, you will hear the gear skipping as if it is slipping. Right at the moment you turn of the camera push the lens in manually slightly and gently. This will reposition the timing of the lens to focus. This usually fixes the Focus error when the lens is stuck in the out position and never retracts. I have had this happen twice, and it cleared both times by doing this. Good Luck

This is a hardware problem. Your simptons is tipical of a lens position sensor being faulty.

There is however nothing you can do yourself. Contact your nearest Sony dealer and take the camera to a Sony service centre.

They will quote you for a new lens assembly as they will not be able to replace the sensor only.

Cost should be about 1/2 of what you paid for the camera.

Good luck.
