I believe that I screwed it up by using a remote that
was for a sharp vcr player that has the tamper proof
button it. i was pushing buttons on it to see if it
worked but apparently i pushed the wrong buttons because
the tamper proof button stays on and i cant do anything
on it now do i have to get the correct remote for it now
or can i use the one i have and get that tamper proof
lite to quit working or what.

I looked this set up, and Unfortanatly there is no universal remote that will unlock the set and also theres no way to do it without the original remote. Sorry to be the one with bad news. Also the right remote is available at 1-800-remotes or http://www.remotes.com for about 52 bucks + shipping. Good Luck

As you know, the Tamper Proof function is activated and de-activated holding the Toggle/Source/Input button for about five seconds.
If your universal remote does not have this button (under any name), then try all buttons.
Try also disconnecting power cord for five minutes, this will reset most TV functions.
If still no luck, then you will need a different remote to get rid of the function.
Try all buttons on your remote. If the Tamper Proof had been activated using this remote with this codes, then it can be turned off using the same remote.
Hold down the tamper proof button on your remote for up to ten
seconds, until the tamper proof light will blink and light
will go off. This will turn off the Tamper Proof button.
If the TV is the same as the one that my father has, hold the tamper prof button in front the tv, and it flashes like 3-4 times. then the tamper button should be turned off.
If you have a universal remote you have to hold the button that says toggle or a button equilivent to that for five seconds than the tamper proof light will turn off than you can you tv on I had to figure this out on my own.
Try pressing and HOLDING the button on the remote for a few seconds. This button is a sort of "kid-proof" lock, to prevent curious fingers from playing with the TV.
There should be a "TP" or "Tamper Proof" button on the remote for the TV. You need to press and hold this button for a few seconds. It seems the Tamper Proof mode is a child lock of sorts.
