The 3.5 cu ft Whirlpool GVW9959K is a unique washing machine that is Energy Star
Qualified. It features the Calypso technology which helps prevent
piling, shrinking and provides excellent stain removal. Save money and
energy (up to $100 in utility bill savings) with this Energy Star Quiet
Wash washer. The multiple cycles which include the hand washables cycle,
the wool cycle, the bulky items cycle, give you the many options you
need in determining the right cycle for your laundry. Automatic water
level settings, multiple wash/spin speed combinations, 5 wash/rinse
temperature combinations, and stainless steel wash basket with limited
lifetime warranty are just some of the many reasons why this washer is
the best choice for you. However the washer has a quirkiness also. They tend eat garments from time to time and take a dump when overdosed on detergent. The basket is suspended on four rods and is easily removed for servicing the motor and pump. The pump has a motor mounted on it. The whole time the washer is in motion water is continually poured over the clothes. It has a heck of a spin cycle at the end. Theory of operation, how to operate, repair and diagnose them fault does is HERE in the service manual.
L5 means it cannot sense the lid open or closed. Lid switch is likely bad.
This error code may also be used if there is a disagreement between the
motor and machine controllers on the state of the lid switch. The
control should not allow the unit to run in this condition. This code
will also appear if the user presses the START key while the lid is
open. Open the lid or press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.

OB MEANS OFF BALANCE if the motor controller detects an unrecoverable off-blance condition, the machine controller will shut down and display ob. the lid switch must be opened at least once before restarting the cycle if this condition occurs. opening the lid will allow you to view and redistribute the load. press stop/cancel to clear the display. hope this helps.
It sounds like the seal is loose (worn out) or damaged in any case....not sealing. Calypso's splash a lot and when bleach is used regularly they corrode quickly. To replace the seal you have to get a whole inner lid assy. I also advise not using bleach or at least not regularly.
Sounds like the seals & gaskets have failed. If you removed the wash plate trying to unjam the washer and did not also replace the gasket kit, you may have violated the integrity of the water tight seals.
However, sometimes also the fabric softener dispenser especially, gets clogged and may overflow and leak if the tubes are clogged with coagulated fabric softener.
As I am writing this, my washer's fabric softener dispenser is clogged and the method I use to clear it has not worked this time - a cup of boiling water to melt the congealed fabric softener.
One has to open the top lid (method varies by Calypso model - Whirlpool or Kenmore) to get to the dispenser tubing and reservoir underneath to get things flowing again, and in fact I have a small water leak on the floor where the dispenser overflowed a bit.
That you have a leak, if it happens to come from such a clog, at least gives you a sign that your dispenser solenoids are not malfunctioning, requiring replacement of one of the circuit boards.
Off Balance. From the service manual (you can google error codes for these machines), if the motor controller detects an unrecoverable off-balance condition, the machine controller will shut down and display an "ob" for off balance.
The lid switch must be opened at least once before restarting the cycle, if this condition occurs. Opening the lid will allow you to view and redistribute the load.
Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.
Check the rinse hose under the top of the machine. need to open the top, not the lid, there are hoses there that could be split allowing water to spray incorrectly'
Code LS=Lid Switch. I had the same problem and found that if you pressed down firmly on the lid when closing I would not get the LS code. An uneven load will sometimes cause enough vibration to the lid to stop the washer and display the LS code again. Just lift lid and press down firmly again and start. Eventually I will open it up and adjust the switch.
We're having the same problem. I too have checked everything and even lowered the water pressure in the event it was too high and shooting water over the detergent dispenser. I'm at a loss as to how to correct it. however, after reading all that was stated on ePinions.com, I'm regretting that I listened to Consumer Reports and bought the thing (although it's been one of the best washers/dryers we've owned although it's a little noiser than I was expecting). If anyone finds a solution in the next few months, please let me know otherwise when the thing starts falling apart, I'll probably get a new washer and dryer.
