My Hitachi has similar problem with the green screens. It turned out I fed the output RF port with my second DirecTV output and cause the video board to "panic". To fix it, make sure all the video inputs are connecting to the right outputs of your cable, satellite, receivers, etc. Turn off power and unplug the cord for at least 3 minutes for the board to reset and plug back in. It shoud work for Hitachi but not sure what may cause the problem for other TV.

I have one of those right here attached to my computer so I can watch TV on the PC. The red-green light is the power indicator. Your converter is turning off for some reason. Possibly it is getting a signal from another remote, and turning off. You can block the converter's remote sensor with something (black tape works) and then change the channels with front panel buttons if it has them.
Mine has power buttons for both the TV and the converter, so watch out for that.
Doing the adjustment is not actually a fix, all that does is change the drive amount of the green CRT which allows the set to work but the 3 CRts will be out of balance so picture color will be affected. The only way to repair a bad CRT is to replace the CRT itself. You can get replacement Green CRT from www.tvrepairworld.com

Exact same thing happened to me last night. The TV only received High Def chanles. When switched to reg. chanels, there are green vertical lines. Light is definitely on and visible in the back. Now goes out after abut 30 sec. Misery loves company. Will watch the site for a solution. 4yrs. old just went off extended warranty 45 days ago. damn
there is a code to reset the HDMI video, i think it is--hit Display on the remote, then sleep timer and video statice at the same time, then the number 2, then turn the tv off, after it shuts down all the way, turn it back on, should take care of it
