When a blank dvd is inserted in the computer or a actual dvd movie I get a reminder that I need a dvd decoder. I don't have the instruction manual on the drive. What should I do?
1. go to device manager
/ right click on cd drive
/ uninstall driver
/ reboot and windows will reinstall driver
2. go to My computer
right click on cd drive
properties - check digital cd playback
recording - check enable cd recording on this drive
dvd region - choose the right country where you are in
reboot your computer
Goodluck!

If your computer recognizes a disc in the drive and operates normally, Id assume you would need a DVD player or codec to be able to actually watch the DVD. PowerDVD rings a bell.
Have you tired that? I know Windows Media Player by default wont let you watch a movie without first downloading a codec.
Its not your CPU speed that burns or Views DVD its the actual player in your computer. You may have a CD player in your computer but can it actually read DVD? can it burn DVD???. If it can then you will need the software to play it back Windows media player wont play back DVD unless you have download the updated codex for it. One of the best software players is InterVideo Win DVD.
