Question about GE EMO3000 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Shorting out Hi, My spacemaker is shorting out on most buttons pushed. It will stop after a few seconds and the display panel will read gibberish all across it then it asks you to push clock and set time and date again. At first it was not doing that on every button, so I could try a different one and still get it to heat but now it shorts out every time. A few times I reset it with a previous date rather than todays date and it worked longer before shorting out. What does it need to be fixed? J101

Sounds like the units main elecrtonic control board. You can contact your local parts house for the parts as they should have them or call GE at the #b in the owners manual. I must advise you that there is a very hi voltage inside these microwaves so you must have some know how on working on large appliace and if not PLEASE seek a pro to assit you in this repair. Good Luck

GE spacemaker microwave turns off during cooking and display goes black

Step 1:

Door Switch

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and then shuts off, a door switch might have failed intermittently. Check each of the door switches for any signs of overheating, arcing, or burning. Also check each of them for continuity. Replace any of the switches that is visibly damaged or that only has continuity intermittently

Step 2:

Main Control Board

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops there may be a short circuit in the main control board. Check other components first, these boards are often misdiagnosed.

Touchpad and Control Panel

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the touchpad and control panel might be defective. There are several other components that can cause this problem, be sure to check any other components before replacing this board.

Touchpad

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the touchpad might be at fault. This is not common. Generally speaking, if the microwave display is working and some of the buttons respond correctly but some don't, the problem is with the touchpad.

High Voltage Transformer

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the high voltage transformer might have an intermittent short. This is not common. Check other components related to the microwave symptom first.

Thermostat

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the thermostat might be defective. Watch our video on testing thermostat

F3 - ( shorted key panel ), will occur if a shorted key panel is detected continuously over 60 seconds.

GE Spacemaker microwave, runs only 2 seconds, then stops

The problem you describe on your JVM1650SH02 is a failing "noisy" magnetron which is emitting electrical interference that disrupts your microprocessor.

At my Web site, I have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range grille and control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You will find a technical sheet hidden behind the grille or behind the controls. It's handy for locating parts and troubleshooting.

You can find an exploded view and parts list by entering your full model number from the tag here, and you can also order parts there.

On your model, you may need to remove the oven from the wall. The installation instructions here will be helpful.

Pro tip: In many GE models, dropping the floor plate that holds the high voltage transformer is necessary to get the magnetron in and out.

For more free DIY and other help & advice, feel free to contact me via my site.

Please include FULL model number*, FCC ID number*, + detailed symptom information. ( * on the tag in cooking cavity or around door frame or control frame or on back)
