How do you go about adjusting the tape track?

  • Anonymous Jul 24, 2008

I'm having the same problem, how do you go about adjusting the tape tracking? I've cleaned the heads several times.

  • Anonymous Nov 28, 2008

My lines are thick and gray and are not fuzzy - very crisp/straight and deliberate, and the tape goes fast & then slow, skips over parts.
This started after I took a previous tape out without stopping it first (I was quickly flipping through tapes to see what was on each one & was a little hasty in switching it out).

I have the same straight no fuzzy lines.  I will try cleaning it since I know that has not been done yet.  Thanks!

Someone here recommended taping with the lense cap on in a quiet room for 5-10 minutes. When I played it back, no more skipping or gray lines. This worked for me!!!!

Get a good tape head cleaner and clean the heads several times. If that doesn't do it, it'll need a tape track adjustment.

Would a different head cleaner work? I previously used a panasonic. I tried it 4 or 5 times and it still is doing the same thing.

SOURCE: Horizontal grey lines on tape playback

please state the age of your devices. It can help a great lot in solving your problems. The lines that you get aren't continuous, are they? They appear to be going up and down, are different sizes and shift as the tape plays, yes? well, this is simple. You need to clean your recording head.

I own a Panasonic 3ccd nvgs mini dv i was shooting some footage...tape got horizontal lines on it... i really really need that tape... can it be fixed?...thx a milion

Sounds like dirty heads .
If the lines are recorded onto the tape, probaly not.
Try a head cleaning tape in the camera or use another playback device.
If the lines are recorded onto the tape then track down someone with a TBC (timebase corrector) and pipe the signal through that and record to another tape.

Lines across screen on playback.

A Q-tip should never be used to clean a video head.  Unfortunately they can pull the tiny head out of alignment.  I believe this is your problem and the repaid may be more costly than a new purchase.

Black lines on playback no playback

hi, if you have stuck the head cleaner in and this has not removed the black lines then the head might either need a thorough clean or may be damaged.

No playback

Even though my husband cleaned the head with a q-tip and alcohol, I decided to purchase a cleaning tape. I popped it in and it worked in less than 15 seconds! It was expensive, $18, but not nearly expensive as a new camera!

4-5 Grey Lines appearing in the Playback Mode when playing tape

I have the same problem happening and can't find a straight answer. Some posts are leading me to believe that it may be dirty heads, and that the camera needs cleaning.
