As I switch on the camera , all I get is "Canon" on the display till it goes into power saving mode, and switches itself off. Not able to click any pictures or replay. No functions are opertional and the shutter remains open. Pl help
Usually the problem with this camera is the shutter won't open. I suppose it's good to be different :-) It sounds like it could be your batteries. If they are Alkaline chuck them and get NIMH the higher the mah the better. I use 2500mah and they last for a fair while. If you're using Nicads maybe they've developed a memory and they're not giving you full power. Lastly, if you are using NIMH maybe they're getting a bit old and can't deliver constant full power. Digital cameras can be very fussy with power requirements and anything short of the best can cause the problems you have and others. Go buy a new set of NIMH batteries, charge them for a full 14 hours and try them in your camera. I'll bet everything works like a charm. One other thing. If you are sure your batteries are fully charged remove them from the camera when the power dies and see if they are hot to the touch. If they are it means there is a short somewhere in the system. Have you checked the display mode you're in? If you have the display set to off (to save power) and also the picture review time set to off, then you'll just see a black screen. Try pressing the 'Disp.' button below the screen when the camera is on - it should cycle through different settings with each press: Off, On, On with picture info. Similarly, in the playback mode this will show you more or less info about the picture you are viewing.
Even if the display is switched off, if you have your 'review' option in the menu set to anything other than Off (i.e. 2 seconds), then you should see the picture you've taken appear on the screen straight after taking it.
If it's not that, then I don't know the answer....
