Rio 258 cannot connect to computer

Got this message "internal memory unknown format". Went to Rio's site, 1st suggestion is reformat drive -- not able to because drive is not recognized. 2nd option do a flash. The flash software does not see the rio. I double checked all the drivers, they are all working fine. But description of drive is unknown. I just upgraded to windows xp professional. And it shows as two different storage files. I am soooooooooo confused can you think of anything else I can do ? Thanks

I know this request is old, but I found it while searching for an answer to the same problem myself. First you need to go to the Rio site and download the most up-to-date firmware. it DOESN'T matter if it's the same version that you have now, you will need the installer program. Download that and install it. Plug in your player to your USB to your computer - BUT (and here's the important part) you need to hold down the menu key while plugging it in. Keep holding until it powers up AND the word "UPGRADER" shows on the screen. Now, run the firmware upgrade program and it will see your player and upgrade the firmware (yes, even if it's the same firmware version. You have to do this step). Once it's completed, unplug the player from your computer and the darned thing works.

It keeps saying memory card is full. Bought a new memory card and put in and it still says the card is full.

Are you sure that isn't "internal" memory card is full message?

Sometimes, when "internal memory card is full" there is no more space in the camera's internal memory. Your camera has 16 MB of internal memory. The number of pictures you can store depends on the picture size setting you have selected on your camera. Keep in mind that the camera always uses internal memory, even if a card is installed (auto default).

If really, the problem is in the "SD memory card", I suggest make some backup all files and reformat the SD. Try formatting it in the camera, there should be a process in your owners manual for doing this; donw formatted SD in your computer, isn't good.

Hope helps.

This isn't really a immediate problem but I have my opal plugged into the computer now ans it won't read it ,it says on the mp3 player usb connected, tried unplugging it and pkugging it back in

The Opal has a reset hole on the back of the unit in which a toothpick (non metallic) can be inserted to reboot the player. If this does not work, I suggest that you reformat the player by using the Windows format command on the unit. To reformat the memory:
Right click on the device within the Explorer or My Computer window
Select the format command (full format) to reformat the internal memory of the device.
Reinstall the firmware from http://download.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads/opal_fwutility_v2.3.0.exe

Press the MENU and turn it on, as soon as the word RIO shows on the screen release the power button but do not release the MENU button until it says upgrading
Plug the USB cord to it and install Rio Forge Firmware_120
Turn the mp3 off then on normally
Put the music back on your mp3 and it SHOULD be fixed. but your music will be gone..

hope this helps,

Rio 512 mp3 player

You need to connect the Rio to a PC and then use the Windows Explorer format disk feature to reformat the Forge's flash memory as a FAT32 partition.

Rio Forge 256Mb Mp3 Player

I had the same problem and, after scouring the internet in search of a solution, found nothing. So I started messing around with things. About 5 minutes ago I came up with something that worked for me! I'm still in 'testing' mode but it's playing some ACDC now so I'm happy. ;-)

My first step was to download a firmware 'update'. I'm not sure if it's newer or older than the firmware that I already had in there, but it works so what the heck. It's version 1.16 and is available for download here:

http://www.opendrivers.com/downloaddriverlink.php

Filename is 'RioForgeFlash_116.exe'

To update the firmware, I connected the player via the USB cable. It will power itself up automatically - make sure you have a fresh set of batteries in it. Once it powers up, turn it off but leave it plugged in via USB. Then, power it up again but press and hold the mode button (the small button on the face, to the left of the main navigation buttons. It's the one you use to select different play modes etc.). It will power up and display 'UPGRADER'. From this mode, run the udate file (RioForgeFlash_116.exe); it will update the firmware in the Forge.

Once completed, my Forge interacted normally with the Rio Music Manager and I was able to upload music to it again. I did lose all the music that was in there and on the storage card, but that's better than having a useless MP3 player!

Best of luck!

Rio Lycra

what is the meaning of "not play"? In general please verify that: Channel selectors matched up on the transmitter and receiver? Audio jacks tightly connected? If the audio jack is not COMPLETELY seated in the socket at the rear of the Lyra Wireless receiver, you will not hear audio. Audio jacks connected to appropriate input on audio equipment? Source selector on audio equipment set appropriately? Volume levels set on MusicMatch software and audio equipment? Batteries in the remote control? The Remote Control has a Red Light that should turn on whenever a button is pressed. If the unit locks up and will not respond: Remove and re-install the batteries. Using Explorer or My Computer, locate the recent files transferred and delete them. Make sure that the original audio files are valid (not corrupt) by playing them back through MusicMatch Jukebox before retransferring them to the device. If the problem still persists, reformat the memory. To reformat the memory, right click on the device within the Explorer or My Computer window, select the format command (full format) to reformat the internal memory of the device. Ensure that FAT is selected if you are using Windows 2000 or XP. if the display shows "00" tracks in the display: You may need to re-format the unit's internal memory. Good luck!
