SOURCE: bottom thread of sewing machine jams up

Try turning the bobbin around. Some bobbins should turn clockwise, some counter clockwise. What you described is what my Kenmore and Brother machines do when the bobbin is in incorrectly.

SOURCE: Top thread won't pick up the bobbin thread

re insert the needle, maybe you did not put the needle up as far as it is to go. Make sure the flat side of the needle is to the back of the machine. Without any thread in the machine hand turn the wheel and look to see if the hook of your bobbin would/could catch the thread (to see if timing is right)
then thread the machine and hand turn the wheel and see what it is doing.
Your timing might be off, but I do not think that is likely. Though it is possible that when the needle fell out, it hit something hard, broke, and pushed the machine out of timing. then you need to bring it in.

SOURCE: not picking up bobbin thread

Make sure that the needle is inserted with the flat side to the back and that you are threading the machine correctly. Be sure to turn the handwheel counter-clockwise, from the top towards you.

Thread not picking up the bottom thread

Remove the top thread from the machine.
Install a brand new needle.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread the top thread!

If it is still not picking up the bobbin thread, then the machine may be out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.
Make sure the top tension is set appropriately--the default is the midway point and then tweak it for your particular machine.

Top thread not picking up bottom thread

Try installing a brand new needle. Bent or damaged needles sometimes do not contact the bobbin thread to pick it up.

Usually threading is not an issue, but you may want to rethread the machine (be sure to always RAISE the presser foot during threading).

If it still doesn't pick up the bobbin thread, most likely the needle/hook is out of time. Take it for service.

Needle is picking up several threads from the bobbin after i have been sewing and jams

Remove the bobbin and case from the bottom. Try dusting it out and add a little oil. Also, check both top and bottom thread tensions. If that does not help then you may have a timing issue which requires a lot more technical expertise.

Won't pick up bobbin thread

Did you check the tension? Sometimes when doing lettering or other specialty stitches you would lesson the thread tension which affects the bobbin thread behavior; did you remember to increase it again before switching back to plain sewing? (Though I would still expect it to pick up the bobbin thread... if it's not picking up bobbin thread then I wonder how the loops are being left on the back side of the fabric; it's the tension of the bobbin thread that keeps the top thread from just pulling through. I'm adding this because maybe that's a clue?)

The bobbin thread will not pick up. The machine had jammed and I forced the wheel and can't get bobbin thread to pick up. When I thread manually, I only get holes, no stitches. Is it a timing belt?

check your needle to see if it's bent---roll on flat surface to see if it roll correctly
on some sewing machines when the thread comes off the thread take up lever it can cause the machine to jam
also if the bobbin thread becomes tangled it can jam
check the bobbin area for lint or loose threads
try having a top thread tail & bobbin thread tail of 3-4 inches
try holding the top thread tail & turn the handwheel on the right side on the machine manually & put the needle down into the bobbin area & see if the bobbin thread will pick up that way

Top thread doesn't pick up the bobbin thread (Toyota sewing m.)

Hi! This may sound silly, but if you changed your needle and put it in backwards (which is easy to do), the top thread won't pick up the bottom thread. Take your needle out and check the flat side of the needle shank--which way is it facing? With a lot of the newer machines, the flat side goes to the back, but check your manual to make sure.

Let me know if this helps, ok?

Happy Sewing!
