Locked Memory Card

My Memory card says it's Locked in my camera but the little tab has NOT fallen off, and it's NOT on Locked. HELP. PLEASE. my other memory card works fine so I know it's not my camera. I am having the exact same problem. Memory card worked and then it didn't and the tab is NOT locked. Replacement memory card works so can't be the camera. Has to be something with the memory card. Any advice on how to access the pictures - that's all I care about at this point. Retrieval software doesn't even recognize the memory card or device... I have a Sandisk ultra 2.0 gb memory card and i have had it for over a year. Its the only one that i use. I was taking pix with it, and that night when i tried to view them, my camera said memory card error.. card locked. When i took the card out, the little slide thing was NOT on lock....what do i do to save my pix???

I use a Nikon D300 and have Sandisk Compact Flash memory cards. i ahve not come across this problem but would suggest that you insert the memory card into your camera and reformat the memory card. This should clear any errors in the system BUT IT WILL ALSO WIPE ANY PHOTOGRAPHS YOU AHVE TAKEN when formating the memory card.

When I try to take a picture, it gives me the error message "Card Locked !" I have checked the tab and the memory card is not locked. I have put memory card in another camera and it works. Also, I hav

Check the card slot for debris and clear it out gently with canned air, small thin piece of plastic, etc on the same side as the lock tab. Try not to use anything metal unless you have a really delicate touch.

My hp 635 memory card is locked how do i get it unlocked

I am going to guess that perhaps your memory card is an SD type. These cards have a little switch on the card that can write protect or "lock" it. Take the card out of the camera and check this switch. To unlock it, it should be moved towards the edge of the card which has the electrical contacts.

My memory cards locked I should OPEN my memory cards

Hello

OK, if the memory card itself is locked, you might sometimes get this error code. All you need to do is to take out the memory card and switch the lever on the left side to the unlock.

If the error is still displayed after you did the above, you might want to try the card in another camera.

If the card works in another camera . the problem is with your card reader in your camera.

If you open you sd slot and look inside with a sharp light , you should be able to see on the left side of the slot there is a little copper or spring steel lever switch. This switch work as follows:

1. When no card is inserted / no write protection , the switch is open and thus the protection is off.
2. When locked card is inserted , the tab is depressed and tells the camera that the card is lock.

Contrary to popular belief ,the little tab on the sd card is not an electronic switch and does not physically influence the card operation itself. If you put a locked card into a camera without a sd lock switch , you would still be able to use the card normally.

It is incredible difficult to fix this switch because of space limitations in the sd card. Look into the sd slot and if you can see the switch , use a needle to pull the little tab down toward the base of the camera by about 2mm or until it works being careful not to bend it.

If this does not resolve your problem , there might be a short in the switch circuit and the camera will need to be disassembled to resolve this error. This should cost no more than $50.

Please feel free to contact me if you need further information

My memory card is locked+its not the camera as other memory cards work in it, i've moved the little plastic tab up+down+applied tape, but nothing has worked, HELP!!!!

If the memory card truly is bad, then download any pictures on it to your computer. A locked memory card simply prevents writing to it, it doesn't affect reading it. Then get a new card and throw the old one away. It's just not worth trying to fix a bad memory card.

Hi, My memory card will not unlock...I have tried moving the switch on the side and when I re-insert to view my pics it still says "memory card error card locked". Could you please help me with this issue?...

Problem with memory card

Make sure your camera is off.....Open flap to memory card.....On the side of your card you will see a little TAB that you can slide up and down....Your card is in the LOCKED POSITION which means you can't accidentally erase pictures stored on the card.....Simply slde the tab to the opposite position where it is now and you will have an unlocked card.....

Memory card is write protected

thought the cards have a little tab on them so they can be "write protected" it is a little plastic tab on the side of the memory1.gif card you slide up and down. I know most SD cards1.gif have it, CF cards dont so if its anything besides SD memory its probobly the memory card or some little switch or somthing in the camera that tells the camera when the card is in the "Locked" or "Write protected" mode.

Looking at my SD memory cards1.gif they have a little arrow on the edge and they say "Lock" pointing down, the slider is up. Move yours both ways, maybe it has a bad connection in the card (im not sure what it actualy does) or its in a position the camera thinks its locked?
