My Toshiba px1394u-3g50 external hard drive is not working, light flashing and not recognised

Try connecting the hard drive to some other laptop and see if its getting recognized. Issue could be either with the hard drive itself of it could be with the usb port which you are using to connect the hard drive to your laptop.

The 320GB does not seem to connect with my laptop. The blue circular lights come on just briefly when the power is turned on but then are replaced by a single red light that also goes out soon thereafter....

Looks like the power of your external drive is not functioning very well. Mostly with this kind of issues, it needs a port replacement or the external drive cable, and if it still does not work, then a complete external drive replacement maybe needed.

Hi

Thank you for your query

From the sound you are describing it looks like the drive has become faulty

Unfortunatley the only thing you can try as mentioned aboveis to take the actual drive out and wire it into another PC, but from the sound you are describing I think you may have the same problem

Vantec Nexstar 3 HD not being recognized on comp

Hi, I had this same problem - blue light flashing and the drive not being recognised.

The problem was with the power cord, not the drive.

I solved the problem by unplugging the connection on the power cord between the outlet end and the power brick section, and re-plugging them after flipping one of the ends over.

The drive was now getting power correctly and spun up and was recognised as usual.

Blinking blue light

the only blue light that i know blinks is the Kmart blue light special .. we need model of things you're working with to properly diagnose.
is it external drive ? with a blue light blinking ? is it connected in usb ? sounds like if its external drive with blinking light could be bad hard disk or bad controller card inside that translates ide to usb.
