Ricoh IS760D scanner is not showing as a WIA device.

According to Ricoh the IS760D is a WIA compatible device, however only Twain drivers are provided. When I test for WIA compatibility with the wiaacmgr.exe -selectdevice command in window XP I get a device not found message. How can I get this unit running with WIA compatibility?

SOURCE: I am trying to hook

Hi, I am steve, lets get you some help.
Your scanner only supports TWAIN and ISIS. Whilst you can use the scanner from Windows without any problem you can only control it from an application that supports TWAIN or ISIS.
As you have already discovered your application wants to use WIA - you cannot do this automatically. You may want to check whether your application supports either a TWAIN or an ISIS interface (I would expect it to). This is a long running issue with scanner devices.
You could use the Ricoh software and any TWAIN/ISIS enabled software to import the scans then upload the captured file into the application.
Sorry it can't be simpler than that.

Please can u tell where i can get a WIA driver download

Hi ,
WIA is included in Windows . Go to "Start \ Devices and Printers " and double click on the scanner's icon . I use a third party free twain program working fine in WIA mode : http://download.cnet.com/FreeKapture/3000-2094_4-10711598.html
You first need to make sure the last valuable original driver/software of your unit is correctly installed , even if it isn't good for W7 or Vista .

I'm trying to find online driver-software to run an hp scanjet 4470c flatbed in macosx10.4.11, ['m coming up with nothing. help? thanks.

HI
Unfortunately , Hp produces no more drivers beyond OS 9 for this excellent device , and it's a shame .
I managed to make it work under Widows 7 ( same issue , HP has no drivers ) . One of the tricks was to install a third party twain program and make the scanner run with Window's sofware ( WIA ) . I' m not aware of this is possible with Apple .
Installing a virtual compatible OS on primary hdd is another option .
Partitioning the hdd and installing compatible OS on the new partition works also .
I can' t see other possibilities .
Regards .

Scanner is not recognizing the TWAIN driver I downloaded

Can you run a test through the scanner and camera wizard?
If so you are using a WIA driver and a registry entry is being blocked.
Look for an error log file in the Epson driver folder.
It may show the entry that has been marked read only.
If so just uncheck the read only mode and re-install software.

Genius and Vista

There are two common ways to software-connect scanners
to windows:

1) The TWAIN driver interface
2) The WIA (Windows image acquisition) driver interface

===========================================
WIA is a driver interface native to Windows:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Image_Acquisition

TWAIN is a driver interface specific to each scanner
===========================================

Most new scanners should support both driver interfaces !

TWAIN is preferable, if you can find it, because it is tightly
coupled to the scanner's hardware design, and therefore offers
more functionality, which is hardware specific.

WIA, on the other hand, is more generic.
It will work with many different scanners, but with reduced
functionality, especially in the tools and setting available within
the scanner control window that pops up every time you try to
scan a document from within an application.

If you cannot find TWAIN, you may have to settle for WIA.
(if it will run with your hardware)
=====

This biggest problem, of course, is VISTA itself, and it comes
in two flavors, depending on your computer CPU:
64-bit and 32 bit.

64-Bit Vista drivers are the hardest to find.
32-Bit Vista is a DOG, because the software is too bloated
to run on a 32 bit machine.

Fancy colors and GUI not withstanding, 100% of the added
"new functionality" within Vista is for the benefit of Microsoft
and the scumbags running Hollywood. Vista hi-jacks your
expensive hardware resources and slows down "YOUR"
machine at "YOUR" expense to promote Microsoft's
insestuous relationship with the Sony movie studios and
the RIAA.

I strongly recommend to all my clients to stick with XP for
now, and avoid Vista like the plague.

I do !

Martin
