The common problem indicated by this is, a corrupt operating system and very occaisionally it is the Hard drive. but if it is the hard drive you would be unlikely to see the windows logo. Try and do a restore by using the facilities available under the F8 button on boot up. You can do a system repair or a system restore- I would try the system Repair first. Good luck.

I was advised to check if my Acer Notebook runs in DOS Mode in response to my problem (monitor does not power up). I don't know how to determine this.

It means check if you see any display on your screen outside Windows. Like when you turn your pc on, usually, before it goes to Windows, you see the manufacturer's logo, in this case Acer. So if you see the Acer logo or anything on your screen before it loads Windows, then the problem may be with the video driver. If you don't see anything at all when you turn your pc on, most likely it's the screen or the lcd itself that's broken.

E-Machine want come on completely. You push power button. There is then a flash on the monitor. The Microsoft windows logo appears. A small box with 3 dots goes accross under the logo. This is the...

Hi,

A number of possibilities:
1. the files needed to run Windows are either corrupt or missing;
2. driver error particularly with the video card;
3. virus infection;
4. hardware fault.

A temporary remedy is try to boot to Safe Mode by pressing F8 even before the Windows logo appears. On powerup, keep pressing F8 after the BIOS/CMOS display (POST).

Thereafter pls post back if Windows will boot in Safe Mode and we can work out other ways to restore Windows to normal operation.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

The graphic software failed. no display

When you turn the computer on, do you see the HP logo?

If you don't, keep the computer on and try holding the computer screen under an overhead light at an angle. If you see a faint image of anything on your monitor, then the lights in your screen went bad. A new screen can range $100-$200 on eBay, and can be changed out easily with a small Phillips screw driver.

If you can see the HP logo, it's a driver problem. If this is the case, start the computer in Safe Mode by performing the following steps.

1. Make sure the computer is turned off.
2. Wait for the HP logo disappears and start pressing "F8" repeatedly.
3. A menu will appear. Select "Safe Mode" and let it boot up to the desktop.
4. Once at the desktop, hold down the "Windows Logo" key on the keyboard and press "r". A dialog will pop up.
5. Type "devmgmt.msc" without the quotation marks and click ok.
6. Click the "+" next to "Display adapters".
7. Right-click each entry under "Display adapters" and select "Uninstall" Click OK on the box to confirm. Don't worry, Windows will reinstall it after a reboot.
8. Once all entries are removed from "Display adapters", the category will disappear from Device Manager. Reboot the computer and start it normally.
9. Your screen will probably still be big and blurry. Log into Windows and adjust your resolution to fit your screen. If you select the wrong resolution, and your screen goes black or does not fit, DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING or you will be going back to step 1. The computer will revert back to the old setting after 15 seconds.
10. Once you figure out the right resolution setting, reboot one more time to make sure that the settings took effect, and you can use your computer once again. :)

Screen on laptop keeps going black

please explain further. keeps going black from where? after turning on the laptop? of after windows logo? if after windows logo screen turns black if a no boot issue where laptop cannot load system files. if screen is black after turning on no manufacturer logo and windows logo or anything then it might be the LCD or video card / motherboard. to isolate try connecting your laptop to an external monitor and check if you will be getting the same problem. if no display from the external monitor then its a video card issue, if video card is integrated needs to replace motherboard.

The theme chane does not change anything. the error is right from the booting....the welcome screen onwards the monitor config is out?????

you mentioned monitor. this is a laptop right? so monitor is the lcd correct? now when you turned on the laptop and sees dell logo it means display is ok. after windows logo or after you type in your password display goes black? try startup repair first. using the windows media.

Monitor displays Msg. frequency out of range, screen is black

Start your computer and press the F8 when the manufacturer's logo screen is showing. This will bring you to the Windows startup menu. Pick "start in VGA mode" and windows will start up with video settings you monitor can handle. Then you can change your video settings so Windows will start normally with your monitor.

Moniter transitions to LG logo

Check the cable and make sure it is plugged in securely at both the monitor and PC. If the cable is connected properly, then the problem must be in the monitor itself. You could try setting the input mode manually on the monitor - the default should be auto - you could set it to VGA or DVI whichever your case is and see if it helps.
