Telly wont srart up?

Tv went dead when trying to zoom in screen, will not come on now. keeps going back to standby, no sound or picture. tried pluging out tv for 6 hours, switching batteries, pressing picture and standby button together on remote control when turning on but no use.

After pressing the Zoom button on the remote the tv went to standby, then tried switching itself on but there was just a 'snowy' display and no picture. After turning off the tv, unplugging, and trying again the problem still persists. I have changed the batteries in the remote control but this hasn't worked. Could yo suggest anything else please?

It sounds like you have a problem in the power supply or a short somewhere in the unit which is causing the power supply to stay in the standby mode to protect it. You say that it won't start with the remote, and I know this is simple, but it certainly would not hurt to try the controls on the unit, just in case the remote or pickup has a problem. If that doesn't work and you have repair skills, know how to use a DMM and check transistors, as well as knowledge of TV safety issues, you will have to troubleshoot the unit. This could be a shorted horizontal output transistor, a bad power supply or a short somewhere else in the unit. If the HOT checks bad I would replace the transistor and flyback and check all the associated components for any problems. If you find the HOT bad, that is probably your problem. If the HOT checks good, you may be beyond your skills and need to have the unit looked at by a qualified tech. That's your call. Good luck.

SOURCE: TV keeps turning itself on and off, onto standby

I managed to find a local repair man who fixed the problem. He put in a new transformer.

SOURCE: black box on screen

Try unplugging your tv for a few hour/days to let it reset itself to default. Hope that helps.

It sounds like you accidentally enabled a zoom feature or something similar.

Most remote controls should have a clearly labeled "zoom" button or a "picture size" option. If not, go into your TV's menu and look for something zoom related.

If this doesn't work, just go ahead and toy around in your TV's menu. I strongly suggest writing down the default settings so you can go back to them if you screw something up.

Good luck!

X box stays on and telly blurryy but showing the picture?

It sounds like bad soldering, your tv doesn't freeze it's your xbox video/audio output that does. Did you use the towel trick, that is one possible way to have gotten it. You should send it to Microsoft for repair.

Cleaning rear projection screen

I read in the manual for the Sony KDF 50E3000 that you should use warm soapy water on a clean cloth if you aren't able to remove it with a dry cloth. I find that the microfiber cloths work best.
