Nikon d50 continuos shooting

I have a new D50 and when I select continuos shooting it only takes one picture when I hold the shutter button down...It came with lexar sd media and the manual says only 3 brands of media are approved to use with the D50; lexar is not one of them...icould this be my problem, or is the camera malfuntioning?

Should an answer be given ??? TRY ANOTHER APPROVED MEMORY CARD. If the problem clears it's the card. If it doesn't it's either the camera or you haven't set up the camera correctly. READ THE MANUAL.

Nikon d50 takes black picture w/ lens cap off

Sounds like a settings issue please provide more information such as what is your camera set at; ISO, Shutter speed, F-Stop & how are you using it, manual mode. Aperture priority, shutter priority or Auto? I would need this info to further direct you in trouble shooting your issue.

Shutter stays open

According to what you say, it seems that you selected B (Bulb) as shutter speed (and MANUAL mode).

First, check whether you are on MANUAL mode ("M"); then, check your shutter speed. If it's really in "bulb" mode, all you have to do is dialing the speed button down to figures that match your subject's light conditions and your other preferences involved in the exposure (ISO, lens apperture).

D50 not taking pictures

Not experienced on this but if not taking pictures it could be the `mirror ` is not moving have you tried taking off the lense again and re fitting, you may not have fitted properly.
My own opinion is that pushing the shutter shouldnt cause a problem. Do the white dots line up?
Wish I could be of more help.

Nikon D50 LCD Display does not work

NatD, The D50 and indeed most SLR digital cameras [ I have a D40 ] does not allow you to take pictures using the LCD display ... this is by design, you are meant to use the viewfinder and the image you see through it is straight through the lens via a mirror block [ called a reflex pentamirror or prism ]. When the mirror is down such that you can see the image in the viewfinder it is obscuring the sensor [ the bit that takes the picture ] and when you take a shot the mirror lifts and the picture is recorded. Its this reason that DSLR's dont use the LCD to shoot, however there are a few now available that do let you do this, such as olympus, new panasonic one and higher end Nikon and Canon cameras. Hope this explains it without getting too detailed!

No picture in the image screen

I suspect that you're looking for a "live view", like in the point & shoot cameras. Most DSLRs (like the Nikon D50) don't have live view. In other words, in order to see the picture you must take it first.

Mirror Lock Up

I haven't heard of any firmware to fix this but you're not alone. A number of people suffer the problem. Rather than me just copying and pasting try googling "Nikon D50 mirror Lockup problem. There's plenty to read up on. You should find a solution, good luck.
