Warning light is on and freezer us defrosting. Compressor appears to be working (input/exit pipes hot/cold). Any suggestions as to what could be wrong?
If you have a older freezer you may have a refrigerant leak somewherein the system. These systems are fairly simple, they eather work or they don't. Most chest freezers do not have a defrost system.
look for an ice pattern on the side walls around the cabinet. if no ice pattern do the sides feel cold? If not were back to refrigerant leak. Appliances do not last 20 years as they use to, anymore your lucky if you get 10 years of use. Washers now start breaking down at 4 or 5 years. The chest freezer is not worth repairing if it's out of warranty. Cheeper to replace, try places like Sears scrach and dent
you can save good money if you don't mind a ding here and there. Hope this helps.
