The flip-out LCD screen, which normally shows as blue if tape not playing,
is showing as light grey but with no other indications at all.
The screen which normally shows the mode, tape details etc, shows nothing at
all, just plain grey.
If the screen is "wiggled" from side to side or pushed towards the body of
the cam, the normal picture returns intermittently.
Any ideas please?

clean the heads of your video camera buddy !! use a cotton bud tip, with a touch (NOT SATURATED) of turps......an LCD screen cannot show bad tape speckle or white noise like the old vhs on a tv tube used too....remember when an old VHS Tape needed tracking?...thats what your camera is trying to tell you....but....it needs a clean as the LCD screen cannot show fuzz.....and waits for a good frame to display.....CLEAN THE VIDEO DRUM MATE !!
I have Sony Dcr -hc15e is not display on the lcd screen any help? The screen shows plain white . help pls
But i left it unuse for month and the screen swore up a bit with black ink in the middle when it display plain white any way to replace the screen?
The playback head is probably dirty and cannot show the picture - the screen is blue. Run a blank tape in the tape drive and execute a record all the way through the tape. Then play back a pre-recorded tape to verify it plays back ok.
ok. what you need to do it hit the side where the tape goes in...start out slow and then gradually hit harder and harder...not too hard though...because it sounds like a hardware jam...you need to unjam it by shaking it up a bit.
That think must got damaged... dont woory.. try to clean the head and dont try to put the old tapes in it. it could damage the head. can u see any thing on screen while on recording mode? if yes the problem will be withthe head. use a head cleaner.
