Question about LG 42PX4DV 42 in. EDTV-Ready Plasma Television

LG 42PX4DV-AA query

Hi, I was wondering if somebody could please explain this niggle. Firstly, I am delighted with this TV in all aspects. The only issue I do have is an irritating high pitched tone that eminates from the back of the TV. It is a consistent tone but obviously more noticable when the TV is in standby mode. The owners manual states that variations in temp or humidity can cause wierd noises to come from the TV, however not sure if this is considered under that clause. The sound appears to eminate from the area of a constantly glowing Diode visible from the top of the TV. I have also read the term "plasma squeal" and was interested what this is and what causes it, could this be associated with my problem? Thanks! Oh, and I actually got a reply email from LG Australia about this problem (reply within 2 days if you can believe it!!), as per usual they did not suggest any causes only the obligatory "take it to a service repairer" answer. I'd like to know if there is a problem before shelling out any $$.

Sorry to tell ya that the high pitch tone is a very common complaint ,mostly from our lady friends.. As their hearing range is alot more sensitive then their male counterparts. The "singing Coil" problem is nothing more then a loosely wound coil or deflection yolk and even sometimes even the HI voltage transformer. There are a few tricks to try to MINIMIZE only!! The singing of the coils. Such as siliconing the coils . Sticking wood pieces in between the coils or tranformer bases. But the really only way to eleminate this problem 100% is to replace the parts thats singing. And this is not a job for the handi-person.. Theres always a hi voltage issue thats present even when a tvs unplugged!!! Please seek a quailified service tech to assist you inj this nissue. GOOD LUCK
