Redish distorted cable picture until I change input source and then go back to cable input

I have a brand new toshiba 56hm195 and all pictures look great and tv works wonderful, except i'm having an issue when i turn the set on. if i turn the tv on when it's connected to the cable box, the picture is all redish and bluish and totally distorted. it's like 2 smaller images of the same channel distorted together with small scanlines. i have to then change the input source to another source and then go back to the cable source and it's fixed every time. it doesn't happen every time i turn the tv on. it's about 60% of the time. it's highly annoying. cable company has replaced the box but doesn't seem to know what it is. i can't figure out if it's the tv, the cable box, the signal, the cables, etc.? the dvd player and other input sources all work perfectly, so it's just with the cable box. anyone see this before??

I have the 56hm195 also (one year old). Only happens on HD input. Directv is coming out to swap their box, so I hope that works better. If not, it must be the TV.

Have the same problem occasionally, when turn on tv w/ cable as source input. Not sure what it is, but if we switch source to video1 and then back to cable it clears up immediately.

I have direct TV and I have the same problem also. It happens about 1 ot of 8 times. All I do is turn off the satellite receiver for a few seconds and turn it back on while the TV is left on. It works everytime. Don't drive yourself crazy with repairs and the like. It is just one of those things.

When you say brand new, just how new is it? Your unit could be covered by the warranty. Certainly something worth checking into. If it works fine on all inputs except cable and the cable box has been changed your problem is probably in the digital receiver in the TV. This is something you will need a qualified repair tech to look at but should not be an expensive fix (compared to the cost of the unit). First make sure it is not covered under warranty. Free is still better than having to pay! Good luck.

Main source should be on tuner and the color is off, what should I do? The main picture source has been set on Tuner forever, but after having some cable repairs, the main picture source is now Component,...

If you want to change the input source to tuner, go to the remote, hit the source button until it says "tuner", then go to menu, page to the "picture" settings, and page through to color, to adjust the color, You might need to also go to color temps and adjust the picture to your tastes. Keep in mind, however, that whoever changed the setting for the source to component, may have altered the port for your input. You need to check the back of your TV and see. The inputs are clearly marked. If your source is via coaxial cable, the you will want tuner as your source. If, however, your input has been changed to the RCA ports, then you will want to keep it on component, and just change your picture settings. Hope this helps, good luck.

My 57" Toshiba projection TV recently started having picture problems. The picture is distorted and wavy. The picture on the PIP screen is fine. is this a common problem and is it fixable?

First bypass the cable box and hook the tv directly to the cable to see if the problem goes away. if the problem persists you possibly have a bad input board.

56HM195 Light Engine Troubleshooting

you should make sure that the onscreen menus are effected by the problem if they look OK and just the video bihind them is distorted the problem is in the digital video or what Toshiba calls the seine module. Probably not though it sounds like an engine. PTS electronics rebuilds some engines however most Toshiba engines are relatively reasonable.
