Emachines 3240 - cannot recover

My E3240 started doing strange things so I immediately ran a virus scan. Machine crashed and rebooted with errors found when chkdisk ran. Tried to re-run virus scan (Norton IS 2008) but error message came up requesting a reinstall. Tried this but evry time I tried to reinstall got a "corrupt" installation message. Eventually gave up and decided to use e-machines recovery disk - first to repair and then when that failed for a complete re-format and reinstall. After numerous attempts still unable to get re-install to work (freezes on welcome screen). Hard disk runs and sounds OK, but is this the problem? What sort of HDD is it if I need to replace? Thanks, Bob

Download a Linux distro to a flash drive or DVD and see how well it runs off that. There's HDD utilities like SuperGrubDisk that can diagnose things.

SOURCE: Dell Vostro will not boot up

During startup, just before the Windows splash screen appears, you should be able to hit the F8 key for a list of startup options. It looks from your post as if you know how to do this.

One of those choices should be to disable automatic restart on system failure. (or words very similar to that.) Use this choice to get into safe mode if you can, or into regualar windows.

Once there, go to the system restore feature and restore to a date when everything worked.

This error message is a message pointing to a piece of software (as opposed to hardware, as so many of these messages are).

The next best fix is to reinstall the OS from the ground up. this may be a major hassle, depending on the data you have on that hard drive.

Good luck

SOURCE: Blue Screen c000021a

boot system into safe mode. locate the icon for my computer. right click and go to properties. locate the computer name tab and select it. find the radio button for "change" and click it. rename the computer to something considerably shorter then what you have. the system cannot boot and complete the logon process if the computer name is longer than 200 "bytes"

SOURCE: emachine 3240 possible power problem?

I would suggest try to swap the power supply out with another known good power supply.

I've seen where even though the light on the motherboard is lit, it is not getting enough power to start the machine up, especially if you have a higher end video card connected to it.

Userinit.exe application error

Hi again:

I would suggest that you may have a virus / spyware infection that has infected this windows file.

If you can boot into SAFE Mode ( reboot the computer) and when the screen goes to the black background with white writing start pushing F8 - keep doing so until you get a screen that gives you a list of things you can do -
ie:
restart windows normally
safe mode
safe mode w/networking

use the arrow keys on the keyboard and choose to boot into safe mode.- may take a couple of minutes

once there i would suggest running virus / antispyware scans as well as running a BOOT SCAN (a type of virus scan that scans the hard drive before it gets into windows)

NOTE on running virus/spyware scans - ALWAYS QUARANTINE the file infected - DO NOT DELETE - if you delete a critical windows system file you will cause windows to completely crash and in that instance you would have to reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything.

Emachine running SLOW and Freezes - 1 year old

Here are some suggestions: First of all . Do you have an anti virus installed on your husband's machine ? Viruses can slow the machine and even kill it permanently ( so be careful) . Just install an anti virus and you'll solve the problem . If you are already have an anti virus , then just run a full system scan and watch what will happen and follow the recommended steps that will be given by the anti virus [ There are a lot of anti virus softwares in the market ] but if you suspect that your system is already infected i recommend you to use (Avast professional edition) because it can make a boot scan , that means after you install it , it will ask you if you want to make a boot scan , just agree with it and it will reboot the system and start a boot time scanning , meanwhile you should watch it and give it the right orders if it detected a virus infection . Here is another suggestion : There is a certain software you could install it . This software can help your machine and detect any problem on your husband's computer but viruses . this software is called (TuneUp utilities) . You can download it from here www.tune-up.com . just try it and you'll be satisfied with result . if that didn't help just contact me again and i'll help you as possible as i can .
good luck .

Acer Aspire 5535-6608 crashing

This problem is due to a failing hard drive I believe. When the virus scan is working you get a clicking sound then it crashes. Clicking sounds from your laptop while running scans on the hard drive are bad. The first thing to do is to get your irreplaceable files backed up then contact a service professional to get the drive replaced. If it is a reputable service person they should be able to clone the drive over to a new drive with no major issues. Be sure to insist on your old drive back. Even though it may have issues, my guess is that you still have personal information you would not want someone else to get hold of.

My ibm netvista 6270 reboot evry time !! my mothercard is ms 6188 pIII 64 Mo

There could be several things wrong but with the information provided, I am going to say that you have a virus and/or spyware. Run a complete scan on system with both antivirus and spyware remover. Rid of all spyware. If you have Limewire, delete it and reboot. This should stop the computer from rebooting.

Computer crashed?

Ouch, sorry to hear that, your os is corrupt, could be one of many reasons including a virus, or just a corrupt HD. Get the OS disk that came with your computer and reboot, make sure to boot the DVD/CD not the HD, start the install process, you will eventually get to point where you can select to do a repair, choose that and see if it will recover, if it does you shouldnt lose anythig, but you will need to reload some drivers and an update.

Emachine serial #GC58240000866 The CD tray keeps popping out. With nothing in it, or with a cd in it. Started last night. Won't stop.

First of all, you want to do an immediate virus scan. There are several virus programs that will do that very thing. A good idea would be to go into safe mode and run both a virus scan and then a spyware scan.

If you need instructions on getting to safe mode, just google it. Works fine.

Also, there are joke programs that do it. Check your start up files to see if anything looks suspicious there. Access that by typing msconfig at the run command. Then go to startup. Remember , if you make changes you will have to reboot.

Move your cursor to the upper left corner of your screen and see if that gives you a menu to get rid of it , too.

Remember something a friend once told me when you are looking for info " Google is your friend !"
