Re: Onkyo DR-C500 won't recognize discs
Onkyo units as well as several other manufacturers have a common problem where the spindle motor gets intermittant or wont come up to speed. Its not hard to replace this motor, but could be a trick to adjust the platter height. Also the unit probably needs a servo alighnment as well. This unit could also have a simple problem as a dirty laser lens. You can try to use a disc lens cleaner to see if that helps. Good Luck

If it can recognize some discs then that cd may be faulty, or if it is unable to see any discs then that unit has a problem.
You say its brand new, some machines have "transit screws" to remove but I did not see any mention in its instruction book.
So its possible the mechanism or laser unit is faulty or damaged in some way for that I would refer back to where you bought it or the service company for Onkyo, as you will be at risk if you tried to fix it yourself as you will lose out on warranty.
i think that the lens had got dirt on it.
u can clean it using using either of these
1) der is something called a lens cleaner. its a disk with a small brush which cleans the lens,
2) u can use a cotton ear bud and gently use it to clean the lens.
let me know if this hels.
as techman said "the old" carry with cds inside problem" yes you most have one cd inside thats the problem but letme tell you something is a problem for a cualify tech becouse to remove that cd you have to brake apart the hold cds carrier...good luck
Make sure all power connectors, cords and plugs are inserted securely and that the outlets are in good working order
Be sure to select an audio source (CD, AM/FM, etc.)
For powered systems, unplug the power pack for a few seconds, and then reconnect it. This allows the unit to reset itself after a power surge or power interruption.
