On a Windows 7 system, right-click on a blank area of the sceen, click on Personalise at bottom of menu and select whatever theme or picture you want as the background. It is slightly different for other windows system, but you should start with right-clicking on a blank part of the screen..

Thanks for the reply. I have windows 7 starter so don't have that option. I've now checked further and I definately have a graphics problem as even my pictures show problems with colour distortion. The normal background to the desktop has light red swirls within the blue ?? I've done the inbuilt test of the graphics card etc. and everything checks out. I can change some of the windows background colours by putting themes in the search and selecting change the colour scheme. This gives similar options to what you were suggesting.
Ok Allan, you either have a faulty graphics card or screen. To isolate, if you have an old monitor screen (or TV with vga connector) try connecting to netbook. If the picture looks the same then it is most likely the graphics card. If problem is resolved it is the screen.
Connected to my TV and image OK !! Which means the screen is damaged and therfore definate proof that airport scanners can damage laptops. I used it OK at the departure airport then discovered the fault 2 airports later !! Many thanks for your help.
Final comment. Just before ordering a new screen, I checked how to remove the bezel etc to see how easy it would be to replace and hey presto the image problem is now fixed ! Don't know what I did but obviously a connection problem.
