Freezing My hardware will operate for most of the battery life, but it seems to freeze in the changing (manually) of songs.

I believe, the operating system is not compatible with the hardware on your computer. Try to install windows XP SP2, if your Operating system is xp sp3.

Try changing the battery, it sounds like the battery only has a short life. Also don't buy dell products.

freezing at refresh database means there is a wrongly formatted or corrupt file tht you are attempting to put on your mp3 player. to fix this you simply delete whatever corrupted file it is. i, personally, had to go to settings on the mp3 player and at the bottom of the list is "format", i had to format which deletes all ur songs but fixes freezing problem. u only have to do this if you dont know what song is freezing it. if you do know, then you can go into your mp3 file folder under my computer( removable E:) and delete the song from there or you can delete it from your mp3 player via windows media player. to be ensure tht it never happens again you should just put each song on 1 at a time, disconnecting it after every 1, if it freezes again you know what song it is and you can simply delete it. i know this seems like it would take 4ever, but having to go back through and reformat every sinmgle time this happens would take even longer, so just stick with it. hope this helps

i can help you with the song part. if you plug in your ipod to your computer and it picks it up. go to tools folder options and click show hidden folders go to ipod control and then go to music and copy all of the songs to your computer!

How many MB YOUR RAM/ may you have lowest of Ram 256MB/ or 512MB only.....that why freezing your laptop. make it upgrade your RAm ...now adays all programs are updated to new versions.. if you using os xp -- sp2 or sp3 or higher than.. atlest you have minimun of ram 1 or max. 2gb..if VISTA min. 1 max 2 or 3GB

also alot of viruses.spyware or all unwanted programs. programs can make slow of operating system....., check first your programs then hardware .. change it if nessesary.

I had a similiar problem. Apparently when you download music from limewire etc. and upload the music to your iriver, you can upload viruses also. Limewire is very dodgy for this. I'd say delete those songs that are freezing from your player and computer, they may be infected and causing the freeze.

Hey dude... what program are you using to sync your music? because some programs are really dangerous you know and that may cause freezing.

Whoa, i've been so busy lately, I almost forgot about this place... Unfortunately, this is yet another mp3 player HDD problem. It's broken and there is nothing you can do to fix it except replace the hard drive. I hate to tell you this, but your songs are lost. If you desperately must try everything to get the songs back, I would suggest freezing it in the freezer (put it in a plastic bag if you fear moisture getting into the unit). After removing it from the freezer, you'll have a one to two hour window to try to get all the songs off before the hard drive thaws and you won't have access to the songs anymore unless you refreeze it-the window will shorten everytime you do this. The reason freezing MIGHT work is because most hard drive failure problems deal with the actuator arm touching/scratching the platter in which case the platter is being damaged and/or information cannot be read correctly. The coldness causes the arm to contract and stop touching the hard drive. Be aware that there might be more damage than freezing can rectify and the actuator arm might not be the problem. But hey, it's worth a try.
