Toshiba MD13N3 13" TV/DVD COMBO powers up but will shut off

Powers up... but shuts itself off after about five seconds, long enough for a picture to show quick and sound to function and then off. Will NOT open DVD drawer. It was in surge protector, no event happened that I know of and all other appliances on same surge protector are fine. Still, I tried in direct wall outlet also.no change. Tried keeping it off and unplugged for hours and then replugging it in to see if it would reset. No change. IT is holding my DVD Hostage. Please help!... Thank you so much. If it cannot be repaired how do I force the door open safely to get DVD OUT?

Thankyou Techman very much for your wise counsel. The tv was given to me, no instruction manual came with it and NO liquid or odd substance of any kind has been near it.. it is mounted on the wall stand. IT was NOT dropped in as far as I know and has been operating for months without a hitch. Weird, huh?

I think you are correct in it being the DVD door opening mechnaism. It is strange that it just quit working. The door was slow twice, but the disc was in place properly, and no undue pressure applied. IT was playing when I turned it off to go to sleep. Odd if it is the door mechanism that it wont allow even the regular television on. I have not tried to force open the door yet, am working on locating a technician to take it to. I may just buy a new one but I do want the DVD out of it. Sigh. LOLOLOLOL the challenges life brings us, huh? Heaven knows I can live without TV but it does add so much to the entertainment portion of my life. LOL. thank you for your wise, and kind reply!

I have the same problem. The TV and DVD was working just fine, no problems that I am aware of. I turned the unit off and since that time a couple of days ago I cannot get the TV to remain on more than a few seconds.

I have unplugged the unit, waited and tried again but nothing has worked. The TV is only a year and a half old??

This is a hard call my friend as it could be a power supply circuit problem or a mechanical problem with the disc mechanism. Most likly the first. Your probably gonna cause more damage to the unit trying to force open the door to get the disc out. SERVICING Do not attempt to service this unit yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. For example: a. When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged. b. If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the unit. c. If the unit has been exposed to rain or water. d. If the unit does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions, as an improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the unit to its normal operation. e. If the unit has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged. f. When the unit exhibits a distinct change in performance, this indicates a need for service. Call 800-457-7777 Good Luck

There is a user manual available from here, for free as all you have to do is click on the model # at the top of this page and it will go to another page, simply scroll down and find the manual and download it. Good Luck

Lighting McQueen 13" tv/dvd combo.

It is an indication that you have a problem on the power supply on the main board.
Nowadays tv will automatically shuts off if there was a problem on the power supply.
It is quite technical so if you are not an expert I've advice you to send it to a repair shop or look for a qualified technician to isolate the faulty parts on the low voltage power supply and do re-soldering on some dry joints on the main boart because sometimes dry joints affect the performance of the regulated power supply...

Thanks for using fixya...

Phillip tv

Probably bad inverter board. It has a short in inverter board and as soon as it powers up it detects the excessive current draw and shuts the set back off. Open it up, unplug the power supply connections to the inverter board then try to turn it on, if you get a green light then the inverter is bad. Try E-bay for replacement board.

Toshiba TV/DVD combo turns on then off again.

try letting it sit for 15-20 minutes unplugged from the wall and maybe try another outlet depending on if u got plugged in to a power strip, possibly pulling to much power from that perticular outlet.

VHS problem, any help?

It sounds to me like you have a problem with the reel sensors not detecting movement of the tape through the VCR. This could also be caused by a defective voltage regulator(s) that powers the sensors. This model was made by symphonic/funai (1-800-242-7158), and it is not likely worth repairing.
