Question about Motorola Mobility RAZR V3

1 Answer

RAZR Phone was purchased January 2006 All features work, except it will not go into roam mode. Took it back to verizon where it was opened and they claimed it had moisture damage. Not so! If it had gotten wet it shouldn't work at all. They supposedly reprogrammed it. Took it out of calling area and had same problem. We own four other phones w/verizon service and haven't had any trouble like this. Verizon keeps trying to sell us another phone. Anyone have any suggestions?

Yes, if it was dropped in water, most probably it would be dead. but moisture damage can also be local, damaging only a part of the phone, from air moisture, or a splash. Why won't they replace the phone under warranty? if it's only local moisture damage then it's damage from reasonable use. it's not your fault that it's designed to allow air moisture in. Have them replace the damn thing, don't worry about such things when you have a valid warranty. don't you? good luck

If they make public announces for recalls, then they hide it pretty well... why don't you do us a favor and try to find it? contact them asking if there are any recalls around how can one find out about it?

There's also the cingular forums, sometimes they publish notices there, but rarely of this kind.

Problem with only receiving intermittent notification of SMS messages, even from the same mobile

It is probably not your phone but your carrier. Contact them and complain!!

Sometime updating the "roaming feature" will help.

Here is the info for Verizon, but many other carriers are similar:

Hope this helps. J

Updating Preferred Roaming List(PRL)

Verizon Wireless is constantly advancing its roaming technology to provide you with superior roaming capabilities. By updating your PRL every few weeks, you can be sure you have access to our enhancements. As a result you may experience:
  • Longer battery life
  • Fewer dropped or blocked calls
  • Clear, crisp connections in more areas across the United States
  • Ability to connect to the digital network in more parts of the country

Instructions for updating your PRL:

  1. Power on your phone within any Verizon Wireless digital service area.
  2. Dial *228 and then press SEND (this call is airtime free).
  3. When prompted, press option 2 to update your phone's roaming capabilities
(the update may take up to 2 minutes).
  4. Once completed, a confirmation message will appear to inform you that your phone has been re-programmed with the new PRL.

My phone is saying digital roam mode when i make an outgoing call, how do i take it off so i can make outgoing call with no problem.

This is pretty much what you need to do. Just turn off all the roaming features. However when you roam it typically means you dont have service through Sprint so dont be surprised if when you turn off roaming capabilities your phone doesn't get ANY signal. Here's the link to your phones manual page 112 is about roaming.

Setting Roam Mode
Your phone allows you to control your roaming
capabilities. By using the Roaming menu option, you
can determine which signals your phone accepts.
Choose from two different settings on your phone to
control your roaming experience.
1. Press > Settings > More... > Roaming > Set Mode.
2. Highlight an option and press .
n Sprint Only to access only the Sprint network and
prevent roaming on other networks.
n Automatic to seek service on the Nationwide Sprint
Network. When Sprint service is unavailable, the
phone searches for an alternate service.
Call Guard
Your phone has two ways of alerting you when you are
roaming off the Nationwide Sprint Network: the
onscreen roaming icon and Call Guard. Call Guard
makes it easy to manage your roaming by requiring an
extra step before you can place or answer a roaming
call. (This additional step is not required when you make
or receive calls while on the Nationwide Sprint Network.)
To turn Call Guard on or off:
1. Press > Settings > More... > Roaming >
Call Guard.
2. Select On or Off.
To place roaming calls with Call Guard on:
1. From standby mode, dial 1 + area code + the
seven-digit number and press .
2. Read the message and press .
Note Call Guard is turned on by default on yourphone.

To answer incoming roaming calls with Call Guard on:
1. Press .
2. Read the message and press .
Data Roam Guard
Depending on service availability and roaming
agreements, yourphone may be able to access data
services while roaming on certain other networks. You
can set your phone to alert you when you are roaming
off the Nationwide Sprint Network and try to use data
services such as messaging.
To set your Data Roam Guard notification:
1. Press > Settings > More... > Roaming >
Data Roaming.
2. Highlight an option and press .
n Always Ask (default mode) sets your phone's Data
Roam Guard feature on. You will see a prompt that
will require you to respond anytime you access
data services while roaming.
n NeverAsk turns your phone's Data Roam Guard
feature off. Your phone will not notify you of your
roaming status when you access data services.
Touse data services when Data Roam Guard is active:
© When a notification appears informing you that data
roam charges may apply, press ROAM (left softkey)
to connect.
Note If the Call Guard feature is set to On, you need to
take extra steps to make and receive roaming calls.

Motorola Raxr VXX keys frozen except on/off button

I took out the battery and stuck it in the freezer for a half hour or so, this worked, but only temporarily. then it would go back to the same status. After that, I took out the battery and left it under my laptop for a half hour (our laptop is always hot). This worked and my phone has worked perfect since then.

Verizon told me to get a new phone, too, but don't do it until you try this.

I like the Verizon Voyager made by LG, but I have AT&T Network Service. Is it possible to unlock the LG Voyager Cell Phone to work properly with all its features on an AT&T Network? Thanks

you cant use a Verizon Phone on the ATT network. They are two different technologies. there may be some exceptions with dual mode phones, but that is another story.

My razor cell keeps roming

Try dialing *228 to update your roaming preferences. It should connect to verizon's automated roaming update service.

Unfortunately, it won't normally update if you are not already on a Verizon tower. If *228 will not connect, also try *22804, which attempts to push it through to the nearest Verizon tower, or *22890.

If you do get through, it will give you a welcome message, and ask you to select option 1 to reprogram, or option 2 to update roaming preferences. You will need to select option 2.

If you do not get through, unfortunately you will have to stop by a Verizon Wireless Corporate owned store and speak with their tech department. They will be able to tell you if you have the latest PRL (preferred roaming list) and also check to see if you have the latest firmware (which could be part of the issue). They will have the tools to manually reprogram the roaming listing in the phone.

RAZR V3M thinks it's always open - Screen will not turn off

in the top right corner you are suppose to have a little circular magnet that changes the screen when the phone is open or closed. I just changed my housing yesterday and took the magnet out and put it in my new housing but for some reason i have the same problem as you. so maybe you lost the magnet when you replaced the lcd and if that is the case then you are screwed. try have Motorola fix it, don't tell them you replaced the lcd

Wont fully power up after going roaming

Sounds like a serious glitch in the phone's roaming mode. If the photos and numbers are in the internal memory, you can't get em off if the phone won't power up, no matter what you do. Have you tried the phone back in your home networks? Try taking the battery out and then putting it back in and powering it up when you're not in a roaming area.
