Stationary horizontal lines

My television has started showing stationary horizontal lines, spaced about 1/2 inch apart. Also, the picture is excessively bright. When bright is turned to the lowest setting, picture is still overly bright.

Thjeres a problem with the screen voltage driver voltage capacitor or the crt is going bad. have the shop test the b+ on the crt board first off . then remove the crt board and see if the voltage comes up. If it does the capaicitor is bad as it can take the load. But remeber theres extremly hi Voltage inside these sets so its never a good idea to try to do this your self unless you have the training to deal with HI Voltage and the proper saftey and test equipment. Good Luck

Horizontal white lines across top of TV screen

Vertical hold circuit is failing.

Check capicitor in vertical hold circuit. You should have solid knowledge of electronics repair before attemping repair. TV's can emmit harmful radiation, and produce voltages up to or in excess of 30kV.

After a household power blips during bad weather, we have horizontal lines ....

Unfortunately there isn't any way to repair your tv as the magnet has distorted the tube that is in the tv and with CRT becoming obsolete the repair is likely to be very costly so probably your chaepest option is to buy a new tv .

Television

Hi,

From what I can understand, your problem is:
1. either a single horizontal line (from left to right), very bright, no picture but with sound, if yes then it is a failure of the vertical section. More often, it is the vertical IC that is at fault, sometimes the vertical capacitor. Still, in other cases, it is a case of cold solder; or
2. multiple lines across the screen with the picture overly bright and with sound. If yes to this one, then it is a matter of excessive screen voltage. This is adjustable using the HV Screen control that is at the rear of the Flyback Transformer.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

No Picture Has a bright horizontal line with off white & gray vertical bars

The Problem Philips 27TS54 c101 27B800-7562 White horizontal line in the center of the screen. Color is present in the first half inch of the leftist corner of the horizontal line.
Audio is present and controllable. The green power led from a cold non plugged in state remains solid until CRT goes to ignite. A click is heard then the green power LED blinks.

P.S. 25”-27” CRT board APT187

Possible Answer Posted by PEE_WEE 4/28/2005
On the CRT circuit board(picture tube), you will find R3340, which is a 10 ohm 1/3w resistor. The location of the resistor is printed on the bottom of the ckt board. It is burned open, replace with a 10 ohm 1/2w resistor. This will solve your problem. The original resistor was sized too small, should have been a 1/2 watt. This resistor is mounted standing up on ends. Mount the replacement resistor the same way. Be careful and don't get the circuit trace too hot and damage the circuit trace. (it's very small) The resistor is located on the crt(cathode ray tube), pcb(printed circuit board) socket. The resistor supplies apx +200v to the collectors of the r, g, b, video driver transistors. If this voltage is low, it causes excess brightness(excess beam current), causing the set to "shut-down". If the shut-down is too quick, you will NOT see the excess brightness, because the picture tube has not warmed-up enough to display anything on the picture tube. To see if the set displays "excess brightness", you will need to turn the set "on" about 5 to 10 times. This will heat the picture tube enough to display "excess brightness", IF that is the PROBLEM. Of course, there are OTHER defects that will cause a tv to shut down. There are built in safety circuits, that will "activate" if excess voltage/current or heat is detected anywhere in the set.

NOTE
My resistors are not numbered the same on my crt board APT187. GSM 02/20/2008

Tv showing blue screen with flyback lines sound ok

Flyback lines? Is the picture all white with no brightness control with faint horizontal faint lines? If this is what you are saying, the screen voltage could be bad, and if thats the case, the picture tube or the flyback itself could be bad. You could also have a bad connection on the crt socket
