I have two almost identical samsung vcr's with the same fault when you press the power button it lights up for about 3 seconds then switches off the only thing i could think of is our little boy has a habit of switching stuff on and off could this have tripped something out?
You say that you have a little boy. Without knowing his age I can't be sure but I have had units come in with foreign objects in them causing a fault. Small children see you put tapes in and figure they can put things in too. It is not that difficult to check this. WITH THE UNIT UNPLUGGED! Remove the case, usually 2 phillips screws on either side and perhaps a couple on the back. Slide the case towards the rear and lift it at the same time. With the case off look for a foreign object in the tape compartment. If you don't find anything the problem is either a bad fault circuit, or a short in the circuitry causing the switch mode power supply to shut down for safety reasons. If this is the case and the unit is over 5 years old (and it is not an expensive unit) it is probably not worth repairing. Goog luck and remember safety first!

Try each of the above codes in turn until you find the one which works best, i.e. controls most functions. This may be limited to contolling the power, volume and channel functions. I have also pasted the programming instructions for your remote below, in case you need them.

BElectric.
