i have the same problem on my mitsubishi 65 in rear projection tv. I called for techs and they want a min. charge of 150.00. after reading this, i took the front panel off, saw the box with the adjustments and adjusted the red on the screen adjustment, NOT the focus. you turn it very slow just enough to where the lines disappear!! This was about a 2 min job and saved me 150.00!!!

I had the same problem with my sony KP-57ws500 rear projection tv and thanks to the thread I fixed it in 10 minutes. At first I thought it was a white curved line but then after a closer look it was a very light green curved line. To solve this problem all you need is a flat and phillips screwdriver. Right below your speakers on the right and left side are tabs. Pull out the tabs and remove the screw on eachside. Once that is done remove the speaker cover. The two screws at the bottom are the only screws and you just have to wiggle the facing off by pulling out and down. You will see a fiber board cover in the middle of the tv, there will most likley be twist ties holding some wires, to make it easier to work remove the ties. Now remove the screws on the fiber board and pull it off.

You should see 6 adjustments screws. on the top for is focus, do not touch those.
Below the focus adjustments are the Red, Green, and Blue. The adjustment is slight so turn the correct color slowly and don't push hard on the screw. I had to turn the green to the left to get the lines to disappear and it was only about a 1/32 of a turn. Very very slight. Good Luck.

this info helped a lot.. minor adjustment, you don't need a screwdriver to turn/adjust the adjustment screw, you can do it by hand.. thanks!!

Sounds like you have a red convergence IC problem. This is a soldered in part and there are alot of hi voltage in this set to be concerned with. Soif you dont know the saftey issues as well as how to solder then YES you should call a tech to service your set. Oh and by the way, all the convergence IC's should be replaced all at one time. Good Luck

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence KP-57WS500 57 in Sony Rear Projection - 2c07611.pngad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

your convergence IC;s are out, they cost about $40, if you know how to solder, you can do it your self, if not , I would try to find somone that can, service centers charge about 4 or 5 hundred, after you get the new ones, there easy to find on the board in the back of the tv

Thin red horizontal lines appear when viewing a dark background

Look around this sight the answer is explained here. you hace to take off the front speaker cover and a small panal undder it. you will find six knobs on a small panal. use these to adjust the settings fotr the power and they will remove the lines. You will need to have the tv on and I would sugest a normal size phillips head screwdriver not a power tool.

I followed GuestUser/ Slinteriors advice and I fixed it. Open the front of the TV and there are 6 little nobs in the front. The botton 3 are what you need to adjust. from left to right the color controls are BLUE, RED GREEN. For the blue lines, slightly (I really mean very slightly) turn the botton left nob clockwise (right).
