I am using a JVC GR-X5U and while I was filming it just stopped. The read power light was on but nothing worked. I have tried plugging it in and different batteries but it does nothing. The power light does come on when I plug it in. My main problem right now is how to get the tape out manually. I really need the tape out and I have no clue if I can do that manually. It's still under warranty, but if you know how to pop the tape out (without the use of a hammer!) I would be forever in your debt!!
Unfortunately anything you do beyond pushing buttons will void the warranty so you can't open it up to remove the tape. The only way to manually get the tape out is to remove the cases and release the close mechanism. Since this voids the warranty don't do it. If it is under warranty it would seem to me that if you take it back to the store and/or send it in to the manufacturer with instructions that you would like the tape back they should honor that request. Good luck.

http://support.jvc.com/consumer/product.jsp?modelId=MODL027421&pathId=26&page=1&archive=true I think you're best option is to look for software that is compatible with your MiniDV camcorder. It seems Cyberlink was the original install software, so I would try finding or buying Cyberlink to see if it will work for your camcorder on a Win7 machine. If the link doesn't work, you might have to cut and paste twice.
Your camera lens has a problem. If you have background repairing such. Try to open and clean the iris curtain(shutter) with methyl alcohol or any other alcohol base cleaner. Must be open and bring those curtain out to clean it effectively. Otherwise have it checked by JVC Service Center near you. Good luck
