I have a similar Printer. And similar problems crop up. Have tried cleaning the contact terminals in the cartridge slot? (You will notice a small PCB on the TO 38 Black ink cartridge) This terminal sends data to the Printer and then to the Status Monitor screen. If these contact terminals are dirty, or if your cartridge is not a Genuine Epson TO 38 cartridge but a generic alternate cartridge, then the PCB contact configuration will be different and so will send wrong data to the Printer Logic Processor. My suggestions are 1. Make sure yours is a Genuine Epson TO 38 cartridge 2. Clean the contacts in the Cartridge compartment. 99% your problem should be solved. Pravin Gupta, India [email protected]

My epson stylus c43sx did not installed or not found

If you are just looking for a basic inkjet color printer for your term papers, or resumes, then this might work fine for you. This uses T038 ink cartridge for Black and White, and a T039 for colored.
However, if you are doing printing most of the time, you might want to invest in an ink-saving printer. This one, from my experiences, empties my cartridge so easily, especially the colored ink.
Other good feature of this printer is you can choose from five print modes. Draft, lets you print speedily and is useful if you just want too transfer some long notes from your screen to a paper. The print is quite thin like a dot matrix print and uses very little ink, but it is quite readable and clean.

Shows replaced cartridge as empty

The cartridge chip needs to be reset to "full"; for this you need a chip resetter - this should have been done by whoever refilled the cartridge for you. You can get your own Epson chip resetter very cheaply on E-Bay.

My Epson Stylus C43SX does not print without the black ink

I sympathise with your frustration - we all feel it. Epson printers, by design, will only work if all cartridges are present and correct. When you change a cartridge or carry out a head clean, the ink charging and head cleaning is carried out on all cartridges. So what you are experiencing is normal, I'm sorry to say.

My advice is to buy the cheapest compatible cartridges you can get - have a look at e-bay in particular. In the UK a set for the DX4000 would cost less than 6 UK pounds, including shipping. If you are prepared to buy several sets at once you can save a lot more.

Note for future reference that your query was in the C43SX section - make sure you post your queries in the right section, otherwise people who could help you may well not see it.

Ink Supply Problem

No, the Epson Stylus C43SX design requires that both cartridges are present and working i.e. not empty. If you wish to always print from one cartridge e.g. black, you can refill the empty color cartridge with distilled water and reset it to full. For this you will need a chip resetter (very cheap - see e-bay for example). Do not run with a dry reset cartridge - you'll end up with a damaged print head.

Ink

See my answer to your similar question:

t is possible that the ink cartridges in your printer (especially applicable if you are using refilled or compatible carts) can not be read by the printer. Some compatible cartridges have a failure rate as high as 30% and so it is very possible that the machine either does not see the cartridges or can not read them.

Replace the cartridges with genuine Epson ones and try again. The genuine ink will also help to clear any hardening cheap ink in the print head.
