Check out this similar post - http://www.fixya.com/problems-solutions/t103765,p241282/Ricoh-Digital-Cameras.aspx In your case though, I would try to turn it on with playback mode selected on startup, to prevent the zoom from extending. This way you will know if the problem is connected to the zoom, or other mechanisms. In any case, if it's not a battery/battery door/card problem, you'll need to send it for repair, or find a shop that can handle it, and it's rarely a cheap repair. Good luck

Do you really want a driver?

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

You don't need any special software.

Write protected only comes up when I want to take a movie. I have a Olympus D-535 zoom camera.

Hi guys, I had the "write protect" message on my Olimpus c-370 zoom for a while and I tried everything, including buy a new Xd card.  When the new card arrived I had the same problem, and I was giving up... then I tried the camera using "fresh charged" new batteries and it works!
Hope this can be useful.

It sounds like a silly question but are you putting the batteries in the right way round. I can't think of anything else which would stop them fitting. BMW

Camera has locked down!!!

resetting may help solving the problem. in order to reset your Olympus Digital Camera, please follow the instructions provided below: 1. Remove all cards, cables, etc. 2. Remove the lens cap or slide open the lens cover and turn the camera "ON" in any of the record modes. Then remove the batteries. 3. let the camera sit for approx. 5 to 10 minutes 4. Re-insert the card and a fresh set of batteries or an AC adapter 5. Test the camera I hope this will solve your problem.
