TV turns off by itself, juggling power cord causes TV to come back on

Hello, We have a RCA 36 TV that turns off by itself. If you mess with the power cord, it will turn back on sometimes when you jiggle it from the back. We know that it is still getting power, and when it runs the picture if just perfect. It's almost like a short. Please help

We've had the set for just about 2 years. On 10/18/08, it started turning itself off, the green light on the power button on the front of the set lights up, and then the it turns itself back on. We do not use the timer. Our local dealer told me to unplug it for about 10 minutes, and it should correct itself. I did it, and it has not.

Mine comes on at 7:00 by itself and goes off somtimes at 10:00 by itself.  It has even been know to change from one channel to the other.  We have no cable box, so the first thing our cable company asked was "Is it an RCA?"  We had to unplug it entirely when we went on vacation.  We do not have a recorder on it nor is the timer set for anything.  I even have dates & times this has been happening!!!

Since we've changed back to regular EST the TV comes on every night at 6:00 p.m. and always on FSN. I NEVER watch FSN and have never set a timer on this TV.

It could seem to be a power cord problem But when you move around the cord you are realisticly flexing the printed circuit board assy. If you know all the safety issues around the servicing a solid state tv, then Of course I will assit you, in any way I can, But you must be aware of the high voltage that these sets store , even if they Are unplugged. Its a total safety issue. If you have no experience using a multi- meter as well as the safety issue awarness, then PLEASE seek a pro to assist you with this reapir, as it will get worse in the long run and cost ya more to fix, as everytime you move around the cord and the set shuts off, then goes on , your surging the componets!. Good Luck

I have an RCA 36 inch tv, the color is messed up, it has a round circle and it will not change channels

If the set wasn't dropped or physically dammaged the chances of it being the picture tube is very small.
The set is probably magnetized and needs degaussing (demagnetizing).
All CRT type TV's have an internal demagnetizing circuit that is engaged when the set is first turned on after being off for the day.
If this circuit is working then you sometimes hear a "bonk" sound (about 1/2 a second long when the set is first turned on. If this circuit isn't working the set will become magnetized over time and will have to be degaussed using a degauss coil available at a TV repair shop (cost aprox. $35.00) and you should have the circuit checked at the same time. A set will also become magnetized if a large speaker (magnet) or motor is close to the TV. Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

RCA 36' tube tv won't turn on

possible that a fuse blew while transferring tv, most like to happen despite care in handling if tv was on for a while, kind of like moving a light bulb that is hot and suddenly filament breaks when you move the bulb slightly. Other than that I'd say it's a good time to get a new tv just in time too for the digital transition.

NO COLOR IN MY RCA F36668 TV

Could be a bad TV or it could be loose TV connections feeding to the back of the TV. Any poor or loose connections in the cable leads causes a loss of signal strength to the TV.
Old cables and connection supplying TV Cable to the house or apartment can cause this problem also.
