Samsung hl-r5067w 50" DLP no picture

Heres the scenerio. when the set is off the standby/temp indicator on the power button is lit. when you press the power button the lamp light blinks once, then the temp/standby light blinks once, then the lamp light will continually blink. the bulb is lit in the back and its super bright so im sure the bulb isnt the problem. after a minute of the lamp light flashing the set will eventually shut off. usually when this happens it will eventually turn on and work after cycling the set on and off, except this time its been like this for over 2 days now, and I can't get the set to come on. Now i have noticed when it is dark in the room, while the lamp indicator lite is blinking, you can see a vary faint "glow" to the picture screen, if this helps troubleshoot anything?
So far I have confirmed that the color wheel is working.
I've confirmed that the bulb is lit.
I've confirmed that the switch on the back access door for the lamp service door is working properly.
I've confirmed that the thermostat mounted to the bulb housing works.
So what is the next likely culprit on this piece of garbage that is only 2.5 years old?

I have exactly the same problem. Bought the set in Nov 2005. I opened the back and try to clean and duct and reset the wires. Now between the lamp LED flashing and shutting off. Sometimes, I get video and audio for about 5 seconds, then freeze, then black, then whole set is off. Then a couple of minutes later, the set would come back on, and repeat the video, audio for a few seconds, then black, then off. The cycle repeats for a few times, eventually the set goes to standby.

I am having the same issue, just started a couple of weeks ago. At fiorst I thought it was the DirecTV DVR because the set would turn off then I reset the DVR and I would get a picture again. This happened 3 or 4 times then I got up on Monday and no picture and reseting the DVR did nothing. I could see a light in the back of the set but changed the lamp anyway, at the instiance of Samsung Tech Support and the local certified repair tech, still the same problem. Like you said you can see a slight flicker of light on the screen but in my case the damn lamp never turns off. If you should find a solution please email me at [email protected]...

    Thanks and good luck,

    Dave

same problem happened to my DLP 46" today. First I saw green horiz and vert strips about 1" wide on a purple fuzzy background. Also eventually tried powereing up and down and even unplugging the pwr cord a few time to cycle the set down. No I only get a black screen but the lamp is bright on the back.

well, i brought my set into an authorized samsung repair center to get it looked at. after a few days they called me back and said that it needs a new digital board $515 + labor to install. I found the part online for $400 but decided to just buy a new set after reading  about all the other problems with color wheels, and i know i would of had to replace the bulb soon for another hundo. I've also read online that samsung has an inherent problem with the design of the digital board and that they never actually fixed the problem, so buying a "new" digital board wouldnt guarantee that i wouldnt have the same problem down the road.I called samsung executive customer support about this issue, and in a nutshell the guy told me i could write a letter to the president of samsung. i told him i would never buy another samsung product and his response was "thanks for calling samsung" unbelievable ..... he said he didnt have any documentation of any problems on the samsung dlps even after i told him of the countless horror stories from other people on the net with broken samsung dlps. I asked if they could work with me and give me the part for some sort of discount and he said no. They werent willing to do ANYTHING to stand behind their piece of garbage that they made. For fuks sake, i can go just about anywhere and buy a $5 hamburger and if im not happy they will give me a new one, or atleast do something to make the customer happy. Here i am with a set that originally cost over $2k and the company that makes it isnt willing to step up to the plate to do anything to correct the problem. way to go samsung!

I FINALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM! I went to best buy and bought a new LG plasma! I would really like to smash my samsung dlp into a million pieces box it up and ship it to samsungs president with a note attached "thanks for making such a P.O.S. you can have it back" maybe I can post the video of me doing it on the Net and make some money some how to recoop the money I wasted on my samsung? Never again Samsung you blew your chance on a loyal customer. When I called executive customer support and asked if there was ANYTHING you could do to help my situation, with a WELL KNOWN DESIGN ISSUE WITH THE SET, what did you tell me? oh yea,, "you can write a letter to the president of samsung if you like, but there is nothing that we can do for you" And you expect customers to spend $500 for a circuit board that aren't even new, when brand new DLPs can be bought for a few bucks more? what a joke.

I have the exact same problem as the OP on my Samsung HL-R5067W that I purchased in April of 2006 for $1600. I only see a very faint glow on the screen with the lamp LED flashes for about 20 seconds before the unit turns itself off. I have to agree that this is a piece of sh*t. My last SONY TV lasted well over 20 years. I will stay away from anything made by Samsung from now on.

Ihave opened up a file with a reference # at Samsung. All unhappy customers should do this. I am so unhappy with this product!!!!!! The picture quality is great but at what cost???

I have a solution for The United States of America! "If We Don't Make It, We Don't Need It".

Personally, I believe if we went back to actually manufacturing things in this country and stopped importing everything, a lot of these problems would STOP!

Think about it America!

I am a fellow HL-R5067WAX/AAW purchaser. I purchased my 50" Samsung in Dec '06. I did not have a problem until this year. It seems that the lamps or the internal mechanism last for only about two years or so then its more money out of your pocket to repair it. I purchased this tech " DPL" vs Plasma because of the price and the low manitanance e.g. replacement lamp every two years or so. I called up to purchase a replacement lamp $164.00 dollars and did replace the old burnt lamp but 2 -3 week later this lamp burnt out also. Samsung subsidiary J&J International unit - E located in Fairfield NJ then sent me free of charge a replacement for that replacement which burnt our w/i 3 weeks. Spoke to a local TV tech who said there has been alot of problems with this model and repairs are costly maybe better off replacing the TV. J&J sent me replacement lamps # BP96-01073A instead of factory part # BP96-01394A does this make a difference the"01073A" lamp is slightly smaller??? Tried contacting Samung corporate but did not have the reciept of purchase or the warrantee that I purchased for this TV so here I am - can any one advise? Please email - [email protected]

I own a Samsung HL-R5067W 50'' DLP. Set is about 3 years old. Recently I heard a loud pop while viewing, picture distorted, but never went blank. I turned set off. When turned on again a loud whining noise...

Check your color wheel. There is a DIY guide for replacing the color wheel. Mine did the same thing yours is and my color wheel was all busted up. Unfortunately after replacing the color wheel my set continues to do the same thing, but this could mean I need to replace the ballast as well.
