Question about Sony Handycam DCR-DVD403 DVD Camcorder

1 Answer

Finalizing DVD-RW A friend used a Sony Handycam mini DVD camcorder to videotape our trip to Europe, but it the DVD will not play. My computer and DVD player do not recognize it. Someone told me that it might not have been finalized. If this is true, how can I finalize the DVD without the camcorder?

How do you delete videos from your sony handycam DCR-DVD405

This Sony camcorder uses mini-DVDs to record and there are certain restrictions when DVD is used, it is not like videotape. For a DVD-R disc, you cannot delete video once it is recorded because this type of disc is a record once only. Depending on which other disc type you use and how it was initialized, you MAY be able to delete video. For a DVD+RW disc, or a DVD-RW disc initialized in VIDEO mode, you can delete the last scene IF you have not removed the disc and not recorded any new video. For a DVD-RW disc initialized in VR mode, you can delete anytime. And here is how:
Turn on camcorder and press PLAY. Select the video or still image tab that contains the data you want to delete. Touch EDIT. Touch DELETE. Select what you want deleted. The selected scene is marked with a checkmark. Press and hold the image on the LCD screen to confirm. Touch RETURN to go back to previous screen. Touch OK - YES. You cannot recover data once deleted. There is also a DELETE ALL to delete all video or images.

Battery died during finalizing

if you cannot finalize the cd but the camera can still play it then you will have to dupe the video to the computer using firewire or usb or video/audio.
likley part of the writing to the vtoc was done and now cannot be repeated.
if you cant play it on the camera you will need more professional help to hack the dvd.

Battery died in the middle of finalizing

Hi, If you want to edit the video, try copying the unfinalized VOB or VRO file from the mini-DVD onto your harddrive by just putting it on the dvd drive of your pc.. u can use premire or some other tolls to get the work done and finally burn it another dvd as you like. good luck my friend sreejith
