Question about RCA Scenium HD65W20 65" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Vertical Green/Purple Lines on lower half of screen

Occasionally, usually after tv is warm, and usually within 1 minute of putting the tv into 'mute' mode, the lower half of the screen changes to vertical green/purple lines on a black background. The tv image is NOT seen behind these lines, only black. The top half of the screen continues to show normal tv moving picture. Turning sound back on has no effect. Turning tv off then on is the only "fix". The video source, cable or Satelite makes no, difference. My repair shop assigned by the warranty company has no clue what part is causing the problem, so they don't know what to order. It could takes months to get my set back. Anybody ever seen this before?

I would contact RCA if the repair center dosent know how to troubleshoot this set. But I bet its an eeprom or ground issue. Contact RCA here at 580-634-0151 or At https://www.rca.com/secure/service/contactrca/1,,,00.html Good Luck

Check all fuses in your power box. Sounds like could be electrical short. Check connections and grounds to alternator and starter and battery. Also check coils, plugs etc.

Once resolved, try a can of SeaFoam from Canadian tire $12.00..put half in a full tank of gas and the other half in your oil. Do this when the engine is warm, not hot. Let it sit for 30 minutes then take it for a 10 minute drive and see the difference. Save hundreds in injector flushing. This should alleviate the hard starts.cheers.

Our 13" tv has deveoped

Hello jcdcam,

Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!

Your issue is caused but the logic control to the menus displays being "Stuck".
You can try this simple fix before following up with my next suggestion; if the first doesn't work.

Unplug power to this TV and pull the batteries from your remote for 15 minutes. Afterwards, put the batteries back in and plug the TV back in. If the picture is normal, "Yea! We win."
If the picture returns with the "Dark Menu" you will have to have the tuner control board replaced.

Have a great day!

To get into the service mode of most of JVC TVs do the folloing:

that the indicator (arrow) is pointed and highlights the "Picture Control".

Still getting "Projection lamp is nearing end of life"

KDF46E2000 - Change Lamp Warning - Reset

Bulb is most likely OK. Original bulb in Sony TV is Philips, label on bulb usually says Philips. Sony don't make bulbs. Sony Cost is usually 1.5 times other sources. Many shopping cart operations sell condemned, reject or poor quality electronic service items because cost of return and fooling with them is excessive. This is obvious and widespread with convergence ICs and other parts.

Lamp timer needs reset. This is usually an automatic function. TV detects Increased lamp current from previous failed bulb or weak bulb condition and resets automatically. TV must be unplugged for lamp replacement for this to work. Occasionally it must be reset manually, as below:

1. TV must be in standby mode. (Power off).
2. Press the following buttons on the Remote Commander within a
second of each other:
DISPLAY Channel 5 Volume + POWER .1. Access Service Adjustment Mode and select the Service Menu that
contains the Category with the Adjustment Item you want to change.
2. To change the Category, press 2 or 5 on the Remote Commander.
Note: Pressing 2 or 5 only changes the categories within the
Service Menu displayed. To change a Category on one of the other
Service Menus, press the JUMP button until the correct Service
Menu is displayed.
3. To change the Adjustment Item, press 1 or 4 on the Remote
Commander.
4. To change the Data Value, press 3 or 6 on the Remote
Commander.
Note: To go back to the last saved Data Value, press 0 then ENT
on the Remote Commander to read the memory.
5. To save the changes, press MUTING then ENT to write into
memory.
6. To exit service mode, turn the power off by pressing POWER .
Wait 2 minutes before restarting the set to allow the fans to
completely shut down or the Service Menu will appear on the screen.

From a cold start, power on,screen is all blue with "no signal" in the upper right corner. while still in blue screen mode approx 2 minutes after start a squealing sound starts. about 1 minute later the...

Sounds like a power supply fault due to leaky capacitors(electrolitics).
From cold take the back off and run a hair dryer over the power supply for a few minutes then switch on,if it comes up fully working then you have to isolate the faulty part/parts and replace.
