Fridge stops working

This has now happened to me 3 times over the last 6 months, and i'm trying to find a workable solution The Fridge will loose all temperature, the freezer still works, but the fridge is at room temperature. The first time this happened an engineer came round to check it, he did replace somthing (think it may have been the thermostat). The second time, he came back checked the part he'd replaced and advised that it was still working and the solution was to switch off the freezer, let it de-frost, and then turn it back on. Admitadly this works. But is by no means a workable solution. He said that it would happen when the frezzer temperature was upset by putting too much unfrozen stuff in the freezer. when i ask how much is too much he advised about half a basket!! Firstly i need to find out if this is info is correct, as this is by no means a solution for me Secondly if this is not correct, the Fridge/freezer is under warrenty and i need to know how to resolve it. Thanks in Advance Angela Palfrey

Angela, You should not be limited to put unfrozen stuff in the freezer and enginner "solution" is not accepted as well. Poor cooling is often the result of a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils and it usually indicates a problem in the self-defrosting system. The refrigerator is supposed to self-defrost about four times on 24 hour period. In case that one of the components in the self-defrosting system fails (defrost timer, defrost thermostat or defrost heater)the refrigerator will continue to try to cool, but the quantity of frost builds up on the evaporator coils will prevent the circulating fan to draw air over the coils and with no air flow over the coils, cooling in the refrigerator compartment is quite limited. Since your refrigerator is still under warranty, you should insist for a complete solution !!!! Good luck !
