TV Picture shrinks down more and more until it gets to a line.

I am not quite certain if it is this tv specifically but it is a toshiba CRT and the picture keeps shrinking down and eventually goes down to a line. If I smack the left side hard enough the picture goes back to normal but has a line close to the bottom of the screen. Also the picture seems to be a little washed out some times. How can I fix these issues. I have soldering skills so if I could get a picture of what I am looking for to get soldered back on it would be great thanks.

You may have a cold solder joint around the Vertical circuit. Resolder the pins of the LA7833 IC and the components around the IC.
Check the C308 220uf/35V & C320 100uf/50V.

Picture is only in middle of screen, top and bottom of screen is blacked out

If you are watching widescreen format movie or tv programming on a non-widescreen tv, that is how it will appear. The widescreen is a wider picture so to show it on a less wide screen, it has to shrink down to fit. and leave blank space top and botton.

If not, sorry.

Tv keeps flat lining and shrinking picture

If this is a crt tube tv. Your vertical ic is loosing its connection with the board. Better to quickly resolder it or reflux it with a new lead. Before the IC fail for good.

Tv will not stay on

A common cause is a short occurred in the electron gun of the CRT. This usually causes collateral damage to support components in the CRT drive circuits.

The set will require proper shop service to determine the exact failure. I personaly would not invest any money in a set of this age. I would consider replacing it with a new LCD type.

No picture Thin line across middle of screen

Hi,

Most problems indicated by your description involved the Vertical IC. With your post "tap...pop back up" signifies a loose connection or to be more specific a cold solder. I suspect that no part(s) need top be replaced but would however require re-application of heat with the use of a soldering iron.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
