Carol, The F1 error code could be cause a failed ERC(EOC,Clock assembly)or a faulty touch-pad. To check the ERC and the touch pad, follow the steps below : -Disconnect renger's power cable. - Gain access to ECR's back. - Disconnect the ribbon cable between the ERC and the touch-pad - Reconnect renger's power cable and switch on. - If you will get the F1 and the beep,it means that the ERC is fault and should be replaced. - If you don't see the F1 code and don't have the beep, you should replce the touch-pad. Good luck !

How to stop WB27K5040 from beeping F1 error code

Unfortunately, the F1 error means that either the touch pad has a short or the "clock" (electronic control unit) has failed. Sometimes the wire between the touch pad and the clock fails. To test for the exact problem, you would need to unplug the range and access the clock from the back of the range. Unplug the touch pad from the clock. Then plug in the range again. If the error does not recur, the touch pad is bad. If the F1 error and beeping repeat, the clock is bad.

GE sold the clock and touch pad as a single unit for the WB27K5040. Since this is an older model range, the replacement is not in stock. There are some places that offer to repair the clock. You'll need to remove the part (or get a service person to do it) and send it in. Your range will be unavailable for some weeks while this is attempted. Otherwise, you should replace the range when the issue becomes too frustrating.

I hope this helps.

  1. Disconnect power to stove
  2. Gain access to the back of the clock (electronic range control or ERC).
  3. Unplug the touch pad ribbon connector from the ERC. This will be a flat wire approx. 1 1/2" to 2" wide.
  4. Make sure everything is clear and will not short out when power is turned back on.
  5. Turn power back on to stove.
  6. Watch for the F1 and listen for the beep.

  8. If after approx. 30 minutes you do NOT get the F1 and hear the beep, replace the touch pad.
