Lcd monitor screen stays black

I have the casio s500 and when turned on the monitor screen stays blank (black). it still takes photos but these appear black too. nothing can be viewed on the screen, no menu functions or anything although when the buttons are pressed they beep as though they are working normally but you can't see what you are doing because the screen stays black. the battery is fully charged and the camera hasn't been damaged in any way. someone said there might be a button which turns off the screen to conserve battery which may have been pressed by accident but i don't know how to correct it if this is the case. the lens looks as though it is working fine, coming out and going in as normal, and the cover also looks as though it is opening fully. please help!

i have not the same exact problem, my lcd screan is not black blank, there is light on it but no image...i mean it turns on but no image...

There may have been some kind of damage to the lcd. sounds like you are going to have to send it in to have it fixed.

My monitor works fine for weeks than suddenly just goes black! I turn it off and back on and it only stays on for about three seconds than goes black again! The power light stays on!

take off the monitor data cable from pc and try to turn monitor on if appears a smal square on the screen that mean your monitor is ok , and the black screen reason maybe data cable or vga card.

note : your monitor resolution is 1680x1050 some times wrong resolution cause like this problems

Photos shot on the street and everything is blank what to do?

Hi there

Is it able to take pictures successfully inside, or does it not work at all?

Just to confirm, is this for the Casio Exilim EX-S500 Digital Camera or a different model?

Please also let me know what happens when you take a photo. Does it show that the photo is being taken (for example by a sound, or visual indication), or does anything appear on the LCD screen at all?

Turn on camera but the lcd sceen is black

I tried all the solutions offered on the net and none worked except one. It simply said "hit the camera with the palm of your hand" (when it is on) and the screen will return. I thought, well I have nothing to lose and so I hit it on the side and sure enough the LCD is again working !!! Contacted Canon prior to this and they had no idea but suggested I send it in to be repaired at a cose of $163.50 Australian. Pleasant staff they have, but no help in solving what looks like a common problem of Canon cameras. I will have second thoughts purchasing Canon from here on in.

This sounds like a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

LCD monitor is blank

Canon would have to fix this for you. The fault may be the screen itself, or the LCD viewfinder drive IC on the camera's circuit board. In this case they will replace the circuit board.

Casio Exilim EX-S500 screen is black when turned on

you camera shutter is stuck at close position, you will need to open
the thing up to repair.

As for the totally dark screen, either your LCD or driver board is bad. You will need to open and replace the broken part.

By the way, don't tell Canon that you dropped the camera. Sounds like the CCD imager was about to go bad anyway, and the drop just accelerated this.
