Common problem with this model. sorry. An interesting thing, is that the Access screen should be displayed when updating the camera's firmware. Maybe a firmware update would be able to wake the camera out of this mode? Would you try it and let me know? post again if you can't figure how to do the firmware update. Good luck ;]

It appears that there is no firmware available for this model on the sony site. There are 2 other things you could try doing:
1. connect the camera to the computer- this might shake the camera out of the access mode.
2. reset it. either by the manner specified in the manual or by taking out all batteries(including the internal button battery for memory purposes if available) for a few hours and reinserting them. you could try both reset procedures.
I hope this helps... otherwise call up sony and try to get some info regarding this problem out of them. let us know if you find something out since other users might run into this problem and could benefit from your experience.
Good luck again.

Can you tell me how to do a firmware update?
I haven't had the camera long and I'm not very good with it!
Thank you! :)
I did everything I could to try and sort out the problem with the camera, in the end I took it back to the shop and they gave me my money back. They also refunded the memory card that I bought with the camera, even though there was nothing wrong with it :)
Thanks for the help, much appreciated :)
when the camera is turned on to the taking photo mode it goes black says "access" and turns off
