#1. tv is 10 yrs old and has been trouble free until just this week. as i view programs the picture brightness would get dark and after awhile it would return to normal. tried adjusting but problem soon returns. right now it is intermittent. more of a problem when viewing a dvd as the picture will be dark throughout the lenght of the movie. initially when i first turn on the tv there is no problem. after awhile the problem will develop (as the set gets warmed up). also appears to have color bleed off (streaking) more visible with reds and orange colors.

Re: brightness and volume
The dark picture is a bad capacitor for the screen or drive voltage for the picture tube driver transistors. The other problem of streaking is one of the same. Thats the indication that a capacitors defective . It could in a rare cas ebe a defective or gassy crt as well but 99% of the time when a crt is said to be gassy its nothing more then poor drive to the crt. Good luck

Under settings you can choose between different types of viewing such as Cinematic, Warm, Normal, Cool, Sports, Dynamic...etc. That is one way. Just toggle through them until it looks better to you. The other way is to adjust the brightness under picture settings like the good old days.
You may just have to make a different kind of adjustment.
This is what is called a direct view or crt type TV.
Inside on the main board (see attached photo) is the "flyback" transformer.
Note the two little controls embedded in it----top one is focus--leave it alone.
Lower one is SCREEN and a very slight upwards or right adjustment will bring the overall brightness up.
You want to adjust it just till with brightness on set all the way up you have a normal picture.
Too much and you get excessive brightness and trace lines and or further too much shuts set off.
Some sets have two holes in back of cabinet and small tool can get in and adjust the LOWER or screen control and others the back has to be removed.
Lay set face down on padded surface, remove back screws and set upright---do not touch anything inside with set on when you make the adjustment--control is plastic and a plastic tool a good idea--I have used regular screwdriver but know what not to do.
Let me know if you have questions 98% chance just need the Master Screen bumped up a little bit.
Shine a small bright light at the screen when on and see if you can see a faint picture in the dark screen. If you can then your backlighting is not functioning due to ccfl (inverter), power supply, or back light lamps.
If the screen is dark, then the brightness and contrast adjustment must be poor. Use the MENU key (in the TV or the Remote, either) adjust the brightness and contrast as per your viewing convenience. Service manual for this model is not in my knowledge and you should not try to repair or troubleshoot it by yourself without proper knowledge of the circuit workings inside.
Put the lowest magnification eyepiece in the telescope-- it's the one that has the LARGEST number written on it.
During the daytime, go outside and point the telescope toward a distant object at least 100 yards away and practice focusing the telescope--- turn the focus know very slowly. Do this until you learn how to get a clear view of the distant object.
Once you have it focused wait until dark --- don't turn the focus knob. Your first sky object should be the moon or Venus -- which is the BRIGHT "star" in the west after dark....
For Daewoo TV Model DTQ-27U4SC, try this for Comcast Universal Remote (one with the red select button): 1. Press TV button 2. Press Setup button until TV button blinks twice 3. Enter 10451 4. Press Power button (TV should turn off and is set)
